Steve Smith and Norman both hurt in the same game.

As KSpan has pointed out, he was going to retire after 2014 anyway and his last year here wasn't that special.

I'd love to have seen Smith's exit be better. I could say the same of Jake Delomme, Jon Beason, Wesley Walls, probably Thomas Davis soon and various others. But I learned a long time ago that happy endings in the NFL are the exception, not the rule.

Yeah, it sucks sometimes, but that's the real world.

This doesn't really have anything to do with my post. I responded to one of your posts where you were saying Smitty hasn't been that good in Baltimore and I was just saying that I think he has been amazing there. Both sides needed to move on in 2014 as I said, but that being said Smitty's been a beast in Baltimore the way it's turned out. Would he have been a beast here? Not sure. Would he have been a beast in New England or somewhere else? Not sure. He fits well there and we did well in '14 and '15 without him. Both sides have been great after the move. You don't need to say Smitty has sucked to think that cutting him in '14 was the right move.

See, I think Smith has indeed been very good, but not for a full seasons worth of games in any year so far. And I wouldn't pay what the Ravens are paying him for a partial season.

Look, I know everybody wants to believe that nothing can hurt Cam and Steve Smith could play till he's 50, but I'm afraid neither of those things are true.

$10.5M for what he's done/doing in 3 years (including so far this year)? He's been there two full years. Year 1 he was up there with the "#1" receivers in the first half of the year and then faded a bit in the second half but was still as solid as any team's 2nd/3rd WRs. Note that Atlanta's #2 WR is making over $6M/year and many other #2's are making more than Smitty. And then in the playoffs he played as well as anybody for Baltimore before ultimately losing a very close game to the Pats where they got outcoached by Belichick and still almost came away with a win. Smitty was well worth more than what he was being paid for that year. Last year he played in 6 and a half games and had over 700 yards as a completely dominant receiver. He tore his achilles which could happen to anyone and missed the rest of the year. This year so far he's had nearly a dozen clutch catches to help the Ravens get their 3 wins and after getting hurt today, his not being there was part of the reason they couldn't pull off the win against the Skins. He's fine going forward. The Ravens have gotten a hell of a lot out of Smitty and he's been great for them, not sure how you could deny that or think that he hasn't been worth what they're paying him so far.

Not sure what this has to do anything. I'm making observations based on Smith so far, not saying he could even play past this year. I didn't expect him to do anything this year off the achilles tear, but he's surpassed my expectations. I expect him to retire after this year so not sure what the "play till he's 50" has to do with anything. And not sure where Cam fits in here...

You remember his last year with us?

And again, the injuries are more likely to happen to a player of Smith's age.

I don't see it as worth it. You do. On this we disagree.

His avg salary is only 3.5 mil a year

Oh so laughably off base :)

Suffice to say my life is pretty happy at the moment. Definitely happy enough that an Internet troll isnt gonna put a dent in it (try as they pathetically might).

Now on the other hand, if I spent all my time coming on a message board trying to make other people miserable about the team they cheer for, that would be a pretty good sign that I didn't have much of a life.

Know anybody like that?

I can think of one or two people...

I get miserable every time you post, especially the ones you make in the wee hours of the night when you're up trying to pour meaning back in into your hollow life.
