No, but the team needs a spark somewhere.. might as well and see if byrd can give the team one with a good return or a return TD.. gotta do something.

Look, they aren't promoting someone from the practice squad to return kicks right now. If he could learn to play nickel, man he'd be a starter. 

And I saw Smitty come into a playoff game as a kick returner in the playoffs and return a kick for a touchdown against the Seahawks. It was spectacular. The Panthers still got whipped, because they had been whipped soundly that day. This team is playing like those guys did. It's going to take something more than a kick return to do the trick.
