Jerry Richardson may be why Dave Gettleman is cheap

ehh unless jerry is taking the cap savings down to bojangles and spending it on tailgate boxes i don't see what motivation he could possibly have in playing it cheap. salaries are a zero sum game.

to me a more reasonable conclusion is that dave balled out for a few years, unwrecked our salary cap, got incredible production out of players everybody else had passed off, and then went a bridge too far. we're a couple of plays away from 3-1 and nobody would be talking about it if that were the case, but those deficiencies have helped us get to 1-3, so he's rightly taking heat.

there are no indications he or anyone else has lost the locker room. hopefully it stays that way.

Do you agree with this article? Tell me your thoughts.

Good write up.  Unfortunately the Panthers have always had great bandwagoneers.  Some of us remember the 1 and 15 year.  I was a Panther fan day one and will be a Panther fan at the end of my days.  1 and 3 isn't the end of the season.

Lose three games after going to a superbowl and suddenly JR is cheap, Gettlemen doesn't know what he's doing, Ron sucks as a coach...

LOL at this fanbase... drama much?

There's this thing called "trends" only once has this team has had a winning season when they have went 1-3.. guess how many of those 1-3 starts are losing seasons??

maybe i just don't understand how the salary cap works, but if you're under the cap, where does that extra money go?

The local radio (WFNZ) show here has a guy who played for the Panthers (Frank) and he has said many times on air that the owners keep what they don't spend. If I'm remembering correctly, and I am.

A GM should ALSO be humble because his friggin beautiful mind doesn't win football games. If you have a terrible record dealing with elite talent your team will suffer.

I never agreed with the Steve Smith thing and I was appalled at how Josh was booted. The organization spends years cultivating star talent and it's not easy to replace those kind of electric individuals. They invested millions upon millions on GH jr another guy the team spent years cultivating into a top DE and he was cut and never replaced.

I loved when he drafted Star and KK but now he may lose one or both.

No!!!!! This is the first time in recent memory that we actually have money to spend. Especially under Hurndog, where we were always cutting players to get back under the cap. With less overall talent than we have now, I might add.

Now the big question becomes. What does Gman do with that money. It is too late this year, obviously. We just have to wait until next year to see how this plays out

IMO, Gman, and RR, took a calculated risk this year. They were hoping that Oher, and Remmers, could hold up (They did, contrary to popular belief, play rather well last year.) That CJ, and Ealy, could give them a solid year. That Coleman, Bene, McClain, and Boston could provide a quality back end around the rookies. If they could have made it through this year. They would be sitting pretty.

Unfortunately. At this point in time. It just didn't work out that way. And now we have this. A team in disarray. And a fan base at each others throats.

The good news? We still have a very talented team. We have money to spend. The future is still bright.

Hope that helps.

That's why you are the author, and I am but a lowly peruser of the ritten word. Well said my friend. If you don't mind if I call you friend?

Like I just told @Cookie Lyon, I don't fault Gman, and Ron, going for it this year. If things would have gone just a tad bit better, we are sitting pretty. For not only this year, but, for the future as well. what with a winning team, and cap space to boot.

Ah, but for the hands of fate.

Too bad things didn't go according to plan.
