Cowher To Carolina Talk Heating Up

it isn't just after 2 games.

for me it has been an issue for a couple years. he bought himself some time last year but he still has to prove that he can have back to back winning seasons or get us into the playoffs 2 years in a row. those are the signs of a winning team. he hasn't been able to show that he can bring that.

there comes a point in time where you realize you have gone just about as far as you can. fox doesn't seem like someone who can build on success.

Wow, speaking of talking out your ass...

Cowher had the success that he did because of Dick Lebeau and a good gm. Cowher had many bad seasons and only went to the playoffs a small fraction of his total season. Def. not the great coach everyone has hyped him to be.

....

Not sure I 100% support Cowher coming here, but I would like to point this out to the ignorants that keep saying it took him 15 years to win a Super Bowl.

11 years over 500

3 years under 500

1 year at 500

9 times having 10+ winning seasons

Won the division 9 times

In playoffs 10 times

12 playoff wins

hire cowhers mentor,we can get him cheaper, with same results

If you are talking about Dick Lebeau.... Cincinnati tried him as a HC from 2000-2002. His record was 4-9, 6-10, and 2-14....That's 12 wins and 33 losses just to make sure you get it. Still think that's a good idea? Maybe you should put a little thought into something before you pop off.

it was gruden's first year as the buc's coach and he did it with dungy's team but also in the superbowl playing the team that he wrote the offensive playbook for.

Yeah, I counted the time the coaches were at another team:

Dungy - TB

Shula - Baltimore

Gruden - Oakland

I don't want to take too much away from Gruden but you have to admit.....He inherited an incredibly good defense and got to play against Oakland. The team that he knew everything about because HE installed their offense.

Sapp and Lynch said the knew what the Oakland offense and Gannon was going to do before the snap. Knowing the entire offensive playbook of your Superbowl opponent is a huge advantage. Winning a SB is tough any way you slice it but this one could be scripted any better for Gruden.

I disagree..Not that Im a Cowher supporter, but the man did a lot in Pittsburgh. Here, from Wiki..."In Cowher’s 15 seasons, the Steelers captured eight division titles, earned ten postseason playoff berths, played in 21 playoff games, advanced to six AFC Championship games and made two Super Bowl appearances. He is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least seven division titles."

Exactly what difference would we see in a Cowher-coached Panthers team than we do with a Fox-coached Panthers team?

Morale? With the exception of Jenkins and Keyshawn, everyone who plays for Fox seems to love doing so.

Offense? Let's see, Cowher always valued the power running game with some deep strike potential (the old Air Coryell formula). Hmmm, that's what we have been working with.

Defense? Ahhh, here's the difference. They run a 3-4 with a strong emphasis on Zone Blitzing. Cowher really did love that when LeBeau brought it to the team with him. Sadly, LeBeau isn't part of the package is he?

Special Teams: Not exactly the Steeler's calling card was it? Not ours either.

The need for players and referees to don spit-guard face masks when the coach goes off on a tear? Yep, that'd be different!

There we go, we have a winner. With Cowher we get more spittle-inflected shouting. Yeah, that's what we're missing! That'll do the trick!

Sign me up for an "I Wuv Cowher" bib!

Right that's why I don't want Gruden for sure. Yeah he had the attitude and intensity we want for the Panthers. But he alienates players and hordes QBs. Now as an OC? maybe.

I'll still take Marty.the only reason he hasn't won superbowl is,two people.John Elway and AJ Smith.H e builds sound teams from top to bottom everywhere he goes. How do we know Cowher can do it? Look at the guy who replaced him. They haven't missed a beat.In fact they are better without him.I'll take Marty Ball anyday over the unknown
