Cowher To Carolina Talk Heating Up

old news and IMO, I wouldn't want Cowher. Took him 15 years to get a SB. IS that what you want or do you want someone that wers his emotions on his sleeve?

I really wish we could have brought Dom Capers back as DC and switched back to a 3-4 like we had with Kevin Greene and Lamar Lathon. Salt and Pepper!!!!

In a much tougher division, let alone conference. stop throwing in that useless fact when judging cowher's career.

so what if it took him 15 years to get to the superbowl, his team was competitive year in and year out, and rarely embarrassed. the players that's on the Mike Tomlins' roster was players he drafted, if he would've stayed in Pittsburg they would've gotten another one. Bill Cowher can actually make this team competitive. the team Mike Tomlin took to the superbowl was his team.

Cowher 10 playoffs in 15 years

Fox 3 playoffs in 7 years

now tell me he is overrated

yep, thats what im thinkin but im always worried about the Seifert Syndrome..

A couple of points about Cowher.....

First of all, let me dispel some of the talk about Cowher only being good because it was LeBeau in charge of the defense. Cowher hired Dom Capers as DC and they dominated, then he hired Lebeau and they dominated, saying Cowher gets no credit for that is like saying Fox shouldn't get any blame because our defense sucks. The defense is good for 15 years - the HC get some of that credit. You better believe Cowher will hire a DC that runs the system HE wants and runs it well. It will probably be a young disciple of LeBeau or Capers. The guy has a great group of people he planted under his coaching tree so he can definitely pick coaching talent.

Dom Capers

Dick Lebeau

Mike Tomlin

Ken Whisenhunt

Russ Grimm

There are probably more but that is all I can think of and don't feel like looking it up.

Also, do you remember the endless stream of FA's that left the Steelers every year (especially LB's - Greene, Lloyd, and Porter just to name a few) and that defense didn't skip a beat. I don't know how much of a roll Cowher had in choosing those players but he was the one that coached them and helped make them good.

Most of all, I never remember seeing a Steeler's game where I thought they looked unprepared, get really dominated like we did week 1, or played half-assed. I'm sure it happened but it's not characteristic of a Cowher coached team.

I'm not sure if Cowher did come that it would mean the transition to the 3-4, next year anyway. It would obviously depend on the DC, and I think he has enough sense to work around the players and not force them into a system that won't fit.

That said, I prefer a hungry up-and-comer.

Would Peppers and E. Brown play LB in a 3-4? If so our LB's in a 3-4 would be sick. Peppers and Everette Brown as rushing OLB's with Beason and Davis in the middle.....The secondary would be the same but getting the right DE's and NT would be the trick. Kemo at NT and C Johnson and Irvin at DE? I know it's not that easy but I'm just talking out of my ass a little.

I would think that they would take a long look at personnel before just blindly coming in and making that switch. I would think to keep Davis on the outside b/c not sure I would want both Pep and Brown in coverage. I also don't have the luxury of testing them on that. I would bet, if a 3-4 guy came in, it would be a transition to the 3-4 rather than a complete overhaul in one offseason.

On another note, it is only week 3, come on we have a good team, it bothers me to have even thought of the idea that this season is over. I hate pure speculation, especially three or four months out.

wake up man. we DON'T have a good team! we only have a good run game and good linebackers. thats it! our front line and secondary is weak and our passing game is hampered by only having 1 real reciever, an old guy, and a bunch of young guys who can't step up.

and of course our great QB with his 5 year extension.

the saints are 2 and 0 and a great team. we will never catch them.

atlanta is well ahead of us in pursuit of one of the wild cards. then we have to compete with about 5 or 6 other teams for the last wild card. at this point, being 0 and 2 and having such huge defensive problems, there is NO way we can sort all of our problems out and still manage to out play all of the other teams for a wild card spot. so therefore........

NO PLAYOFFS!
