Geoff Schwatz provides context on why Bene was cut.

Of course it is comparable. We aren't talking skill, we are talking conditioning and heart. And saying you are gassed is a poor excuse for anything. The receiver is just as tired as you are. It is about heart and desire and imposing your will on the opponent.  Why do some guys run fast even when they are tired and other players dog it. Everyone has the ability at this level but not everyone has the desire to be great. If you watched the game you would see that there was a lot more wrong than he was tired. Poor angles, biting on double moves, etc. They likely were hoping he was recover but realize he is not the player he was last year.

I don't mean to be overly harsh, but you sound like a fuging moron on this topic.  As someone pointed out earlier, Bene played damn near every snap of the game.  While Julio was catching a breather, Bene was still out there chasing someone else around the field.

But yeah, I'm sure your son has more heart and desire playing little league soccer than a guy who started in the NFL as a 5th round rookie and who is trying to come back from snapping his damn leg in half on the field less than a year ago.

Jesus Christ, man.

For those that are interested, Bene did his usual in studio weekly interview with WFNZ a couple of days ago and discussed what happened with Julio. He was very candid and admitted that he has been out of shape. Pretty sure this is what Geoff Schwartz is referring to. Link to the interview is below.

Not to jump to conclusions but it is odd that Jordan Gross used to be a regular on WFNZ and was reportedly "pushed out", Steve Smith used to co-host on WFNZ and was cut, Norman gave interviews all the time and is gone, now Bene. Like I said, not to jump to conclusions but that is a bit of a pattern.

Previous to all of those, Jon Beason would do weekly interviews on FNZ and we all know what happend to him. TD is currently a regular on FNZ as well.

I wonder if the cut has something to do with Bewikere's close relationship with Josh Norman. He's likely been very unhappy with personnel decisions in the secondary and didn't just put his foot in his mouth to the media but couldn't keep his mouth shut in the locker room either.

I really think there is more to this story. However, if it is just about admitting he was gassed and out of shape, then coaching has to take responsibility as well. They should have known he was not 100%. If they didn't, then that implies that they are losing the trust of the players, hence the locker room. He may have thought his candor and honesty scored him some points, but he may also have unintentionally exposed our conditioning program and that may have ruffled some feathers. Honesty is not the best policy at the workplace ... I've learned to keep my mouth shut at work the hard way. He'll definitely be picked up by someone. He is not a bad player. This whole thing is wierd

I feel like conditioning should be on the coaches. Maybe they need to stop playing in the literal center of hell in the offseason, and instead find somewhere the players can move around for more than 10 minutes without falling out.

Teams are only allowed so many hours and days of team-organized activities.

After that?  Its all on the player.  Players dedicated to their craft aren't out of shape when the season starts, much less by Game 4.

Uh oh.  that must mean TD will be next.  He also does a weekly show!

Back to the real topic:

1) Agree this could be good if it lights a fire under players, makes them realize no one is safe and that they need to perform.  No coasting.

2) But with so many injuries, it's pretty shocking to suddenly cut a starter.  It almost feels like the team has said "to Heck with it" and is just doing desperate stuff.  I mean bench him for a game if you must, but actually cutting one of your solid young players?!?!  Feels like we now have no depth at all in our backfield.  None.

3) My only hope is that in 2014 when we suddenly went with youth we started winning.  Maybe Ron is hoping to recapture some of that magic?

"Gassed" was just an excuse by Bene to cover:

I'm still injured and not at 100%

Being a corner is more cerebral than nickel

The coaches stopped buying the excuses...they gave him the benefit of the doubt until they had to pull the plug.

he was gassed b/c he played almost every defensive snap after Bradberry went down, plus his conditioning wasn't at 100% b/c of the injury.

that's the reason you cut a player? doesn't add up.

I agree 100%

And then to replace him with a rookie who was drafted to play slot...makes even less sense
