I want to believe it is this. How else can you justify this move? Bene had one terible game but has nevertheless been serviceable as a nickel since he got here and is the best corner we had because of Gettlemans mishandling of the secondary. Also what message does this send to the rest of the team? That you have one bad outing and you're cut? You can argue it's accountability, but how will players react to accountability when Gettleman isn't being held accountable for his mistakes this offseason?

 been has been massively overrated on here for years. last year he was one of the lowest ranked DBs on PFF, even as the Panthers were one of the best teams covering receivers out of the slot, suggesting they were succeeding despite him, not because of him. 

they did the exact same thing in 2014, and gettleman has shown he'd rather get bad players out and roll with whatever than be mildly less shitty with someone he doesn't want. 

the only problem is the timing. james bradberry is basically done for the season with turf toe (it'll take the offseason to fully recover from) and they're literally don't have the bodies right now.

Bene played like dog poo at Atlanta. It was mentioned that him not being in game shape was part of his struggles. I guess the Panthers feel that Sanchez can't be that much worse and at least he's in game shape, and will be able to learn from the playing time.
