Julio racked up around 220 yards with Bene covering him

He would have had 500 if Worley had been covering him the plays that Bene was.  Bene got torched, but he also made a couple plays that none of the other DBs were making.  Not even saying Bene put up a professional level defense against Julio, but none of the other DBs did even as good as Bene did.

imo if he was being PC and was mad about bene he'd be talking about missing him as a player and wishing him the best of luck. even tossing out the snippet about it being more than one game suggests there's been a long-term problem. my guess is he's been malingering since the injury last year and never really brought his game the year. and it's shown.

Difficult to tell.  Could be a little of both...  I know I would not want to hear that from TD, if I worked with him though...

The fact that it's hard to tell is very telling.

Fair. I certainly wouldn't want to hear that from Thomas Davis, I'm just trying to gage the teams emotions. They may feel the exact opposite of how we feel.

that's actually pretty ridiculous. people said the same thing after cason and jason avant, both at times when we were in deep poo at those positions, and in retrospect it was the right move.

i am questioning dave like everybody else but let's not be ridiculous.

If Sanchez can come through and give our secondary a boost similar to what Philly was able to do when we cut Avant then you have a good analogy there. However unless Zack is leaps and bounds ahead of where he was preseason I don't see that happening.

Bene wasn't even the worst CB on our roster imo and that's why I say the move looks like it happened in reaction to Sunday

It's very difficult to gauge, because they don't really want the public to know a whole lot.  It's better for the team, and the player that's released, to keep it to themselves.  Hell, Ron said just yesterday, that Bene would be part of the rotation Monday.  The real reason may never be known.

Bene talked too much. Should've never volunteered to cover Julio; especially if you know your ass ain't in shape. Let Bradberry or Worley take that trap. He also shouldn't have admitted to being out of shape or winded.

Example of what I tell my son: do not let your mouth write a check that your ass can not cash. Bene wrote a check and it bounced.

LOL!

21. Green Bay Packers

(Original pick: Alabama FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix)
Re-do pick: San Jose State CB Bené Benwikere

When he was given a chance to start in the second half of Carolina's season, Benwikere impressed, allowing a rookie-low 72.9 opposing quarterback rating and no touchdowns in 459 regular-season snaps. He was less impressive in Carolina's playoff loss to Seattle, but this fifth-rounder should have been selected a lot earlier in the draft, and given Green Bay's issues in the secondary, he could have been as impactful as Clinton-Dix turned out to be.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
