That's a really good point, has Williams even be active since Week 1? Has to be more than just performance-related.

Exactly. Worley, though awful at CB so far, has been as good or better than Teddy ever was as a ST gunner. It makes zero sense to keep Teddy and not Bene. Hell, try a conversion to safety with Bene at least. I really can't comprehend this move UNLESS it was off the field/blew up at coaches related.

Love reading all the Panther experts on this board. Guys who do everything for a living except run football teams and they're questioning the moves by guys who were just in the Super Bowl nine months ago.

That was last year.  It's irrelevant.  All that matters right now is that we're 1-3 and we look like this

on the field and off.

And oh, by the way, this screams of a COACHING move and not a MANAGEMENT move.

We're post-Week Four so, salary-wise, the cost of Benwikere was already sunk into the budget.  There was simply no real reason for this to be a MANAGEMENT move (outside of panic and conspiracy theory, of course).

With this in mind (and without knowing every detail, admittedly), I lean towards a higher percentage of probability that this is something that the coaches preferred and the move was made because of that.

Possible.

Personnel evaluation was never Rivera's string suit.

Guess we'll find out more in about 15 minutes.

so we're just suppose to sit here and blindly praise them?

Part of this just feels like an attempt to dictate the narrative.

The team will likely never give up 300 yards to a single WR again so there's nowhere to go but up and gives Gettleman the chance to get up at the podium at the end of the year and say "well once I made Ron put my guys out there things clearly improved, cutting Josh was obviously the right move and everybody else is at fault but me here, really"

Maybe Gettleman and Rivera thinking we made it to the super bowl without him last year and has not done much to help the team this year. Why not give someone else a shot.

Bene must have had a terrible practice this week after having the worst game of a cornerback ever. Plus this is sending a signal to the rest of the team.

this has to be for something off the field, right?

Yes, he got torched by Julio, but so do a lot of CBs and it's not like the alternative is much better.

I don't think so. He literally gave up covering Julio. When we pulled withing eight points and Julio scored on the 75 yard TD pass you can see Bene just jogging around the field while trying to "cover" him. I'm sure hes a nice guy this cut was a must. Bravo to Ron on this one. Its one thing to get beat by a superior athlete but another to give up on you team.
