Bad Draft

Carolina28

Well we traded our 2018 4th for punter Andy Lee and he allowed Atlanta to set records against us. I mean seriously, what defense can cover 99 yards? Seriously though, we traded up for Bene, Funchess and Worley(Then selected Sanchez with with an early 5th, as part of the Cleveland deal) G-Man viewed these guys as better than BPA.

I remember when it used to take more than just four games to determine whether a guy you drafted was a bust or not.

Heck, these days you can do it right after their first game as a pro.

First game?  Nah. Some here make that call after the first OTA.

Even though this wasn't the point of the thread I will take it in a different direction. I really believe the DG picks need to step it up and start to become more consistent. Unfortunately almost all of DGs picks have been amazing one game and then disappear in the next.

1. 2013 - Star, KK, Klein: KK flashed all last year. This year he flashes once or twice a game. We need more consistent play. Same with Star. I see him single blocked more this year and every once in awhile I see a play made but he is also getting pushed back a lot more this year. Klein great backup.

2. 2014 - DGs best draft: KB, Ealy, Turner, Boston, Bene. Only Turner is consistent. All other up and down.

3. 2015 - Shaq, Funchess, Williams, Mayo, Cap: Still haven't seen the explosiveness and playmaking ability that we heard about all camp long for Shaq and Funchess. I still don't feel like we are utilizing Shaq or Funchess as much as we should or could but once again they haven't been consistent.

This is why I believe Rivera always preaches consistency because unfortunately our past 3 drafts have produced 1-2 consistent players and the others have been amazing one game and then ok the next.

what rookie OT's would be an upgrade over Remmers and Oher right now? Who would you have traded for? What would you give up in return?

Sick and tired of every idiot saying what we should have done without giving the specifics. There is a reason you aren't a GM in the NFL.

I agree with this 100%. If you look back at 2015 and 2016 draft there are very few impact OT even when passing the hindsight game. Also people talk about DEs and there are a couple of those but still not a lot.

I have no problems with DGs drafting I just think the players need to be consistent of we are going to be the team we thought we were going to be.

Now FAs I think we could have done a little more there. I think DG put all his eggs in the KK long term contract

The recent bust rate of 1st round OTs is pretty alarming. It used to be considered one of the safest picks you could make, now it seems like one of the riskiest.

True, and even with the bust rate, the best ones are gone by the time we pick.
