Cam Newton Request Trade - Cleveland Offers 3 First Round Picks

There's only one way I'd ever trade Cam. It would have to be at the end of a season in which we didn't make the playoffs, and it would have to be with a Texans team that severely struggled and as a result netted a top 5 draft pick. Cam for JJ Watt and their first round pick. Throw in Derek Newton too, if not then id be okay with JJ Watt and their first. We'd have two first round draft picks plus a franchise pass rusher for the next 8 years. Also a top 5 pick to select the best QB and use our other first on a cb/safety/ left tackle. Other than that, no way.

You know.  I had always hated that we didn't trade our #1 down that year for a lower top ten pick and more picks and draft a nonQB... likely suck and be #1 the next year and draft Luck.  The top 16 2011 draft picks have all made the Pro Bowl except Locker, Gabbert, Ponder, and Fairley.

Imagine for a moment if we had moved down a bit and Drafted JJ Watt and then drafted Andrew Luck the next year, along with a few extra picks.  Or possibly another player instead, I remember wanting Patrick Peterson pretty bad that year and still wish we'd had smacked him on his non fair-catch TD that won Arizona the game.  The only catch to all this is that we ended up with Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly instead.  So... yea.  I stopped hating the choice we made.  I think we came out pretty good on it.

The only "what if" is what the extra picks could have been since Cleveland made a trade of  #6: Cleveland → Atlanta. (D) Cleveland traded this pick to Atlanta for Atlanta's first (27th overall, which later became #26), second (59th) and fourth-rounder (124th) and also Atlanta's first- and fourth-round selections in 2012.  Atlanta traded all that for just #6, Julio.
