Good Analysis: Our Defensive Pressure is NOT the Problem

some of the worst plays i saw last week were where Coleman would blitz and Ryan would throw the ball right over him where nobody was defending for nice chunk gains. they totally neutralized the blitz and left us with gaping holes.

Except for the Atlanta game, the CBs have been doing fine.

And even in the Atlanta game, the CBs were exposed by horrible safety play.

So if by "secondary", this article really means "safeties" then, yeah, I agree.

If by "secondary", this article is pointing a finger at the young CBs then, no.  Safety and DL play have been FAR more damaging to the defense so far this year than anything the young CBs have done (or failed to do).

On every blitz, there is at least one open receiver. The race is to see if the blitzer can get to the QB before the QB spots the open receiver.

We've been losing that race, partly because we aren't effectively disguising the blitz as well as before. This might be because we have run the blitzes enough over the last year and a half that good teams can recognize them.

Sure Coleman is ok at free safety when Roman was lining up the secondary.  We have a huge need at SS that never got addressed and I think its hurting as much as Josh leaving.  Not as much drop in talent but from a leadership and experience standpoint we arent even close to last year.  Roman and Josh were the brains of the operation and it cuts me deep...  wtf dave wtf

I'm surprised Coleman has struggled so much, but he may be overcompensating? You could attribute it to the switch from FS to SS but the safety positions in our defense are interchangeable so it's not like he has a totally different set of assignments. Having said that, it looks like there are times when he's trying to do his old job or help with someone else's job instead of focusing on his own. On top of everything else, Bene has admitted he's out of shape so it's no coincidence that Julio was easily able to blown past him and seperate on that 2nd long pass attempt after Bene has just sprinted down the field with him on the PBU. We need Bradberry back, Bene in shape and a reliable FS.If Michael Griffin is the best we can do we should probably consider a trade. Cromartie was just released and is an intruiging prospect both at CB and FS. If nothing else it would be another vet presence in that young position group.

I had a night mare that there was internal problems and thats why we were playing like poo.. I saw the Cam got sued thing on BR on my phone when I woke up too. What if everything is getting to him and its overwhelming? What if the coaches are being very relaxed and not evolving and putting in new things for the players to get excited about?

Could be a crock of poo and were fine.
