"I would have taken a shot"

After Rivera whining like a little bitch about the league scheduling only to make these comments about the goal line hit, and paired with his lack of ire toward the refs for allowing Newton to get drilled in the head repeatedly in Denver.. I'm about as sour as one can get on Ron as a head coach at the moment considering how lackluster and unprepared his team looked in Atlanta. That's not even mentioning how his staff has been repeatedly outcoached so far this season. It isn't looking good to put it kindly.

It was a terrible play by Newton and I was surprised as many people here got as upset with the Falcons LB as they did. You can't allow someone to jog into the endzone, because they slowed down.

What I will say about the play was the hit by Remmers on Jones afterwards is one of the dirtier plays I've seen all year.

Lmao i remember a certain Saint (Roman Harper) doing the same exact fuging thing to Smitty in 2011.

All because he was mad about 89 completely burning the entire Saints secondary.

Fwiw, I don't think it was a dirty play.  There have been a lot of plays worse than that.  And Cam was barely in the end zone.

But to make it simpler, perhaps all helmet to helmet contact should be outlawed.

Is that even realistically possible though?

On a scale of 1-10, how trusting and willing would you be to play for him and his staff right now?

Even if he was thinking it, he shouldn't have said it. We all can agree Cam isn't gonna point a finger at the defender (we may be more upset than Cam is right now) but some things shouldn't be said to the media. It looks bad as a head coach. It can be perceived very wrong. Things are just not right at the moment.

Nah. Harpers play was dirty. He was mad because Smitty walked into the endzone. Even said so. Jones hit was clean. He met him at the goalline. Even Newton wasn't sure that he got in, that's why he dove forward. In hindsight, I'm more than sure he'll take the blame for it. This is twice I can remember him slowing down at the line and getting blasted by a LB.

He should really just not say anything if he is going to half ass it when he should be backing his players.

The only time I've recently seen him show some fire about a subject in a press conference was when someone asked about the approach of himself, and his staff to the concussion protocol a week or two back. He got really defensive.

I don't care for the inconsistencies. He's entering into some Bruce Arians poo. I don't know if he is just afraid to speak up on certain things, or just not really careful with his words, but he's been doing more harm than good lately.

That's impossible.

It would be incredibly difficult, no doubt about it.  And it would make playing defense far more difficult.

I think they do need tougher penalties on the egregious hits though, especially guys who launch.

Until people start getting suspended, it's just gonna keep happening.

One of the more promising solutions is one of the newly designed helmets I read about a few weeks ago.  Has an outer shell that gives way sort of like a car bumper, makes it slow down and absorb the impact instead of the current hard shell that just stops altogether.

People know what I feel about that hit but if I'm the coach I'm sticking up  for Cam BTW.

I feel like Rivera should have lit into the Refs and taken a fine for the team by calling them and the league out after the Denver game. Sort of like when a manager gets thrown out of a baseball game on purpose to protect his pitcher or something. We need that from Ron but he is kind of a lame brain TBH.

Ron is a master deflector and wants to point the finger at all but himself. Even though I think the hit was fine if I'm the damn HC I'm like "fug that they keep allowing players to target our QB and we will fix it if they don't" that type of poo.

Rivera just loves to take it up the ass from either the league or Richardson...maybe both but I'd get fired before I sit on that.

Probably, but a launch only becomes relevant if the underlying play is illegal.  Launching on a legal play is called tackling.

I'll say what I've said in all other threads related to this play.  I only take issue with Cam being casual approaching the goal line in an NFL game.  When that happens, a price is usually paid.  I don't condone dirty play, nor did I find the play by the Falcons' player dirty.  It was a quick shot to prevent Cam from crossing the goal line, and from my vantage point (the TV), he was not clearly across when the contact occurred.
