How do we turn the defense around?

Can't be fixed in season IMO.

Now it can and will improve.  I believe that it will improve. Some guys will get better.

But the fact is we have a weak DB group in 2016 and weak DEs.  Same issues will exist all season to varies degrees.

I personally believe, Sanchez not Worley should be the on active roster.

The only way I see them turning things around is if they have a major change in attitude.  Not just on the D either.  These guys are playing like they think they are better than they really are.  We will find out what these coaches and the leaders are made of in the coming weeks.

Where was Newberry yesterday?

and probably after being burned for the 3rd time in single coverage on Julio, maybe add some help. And a Lbr playing underneath lined up over the  A gap is not going to help in time.

he got hurt in the 1st quarter and never returned. hes the only one that has potential but he havent looked good imo but not bad either.

It's going to be hard to improve the D this season.

Ealy needs to move to RE and stay there. It doesn't looks as if he's ever going to be a dominant pass rusher from the right side but he's been ok on the left. I'd evaluate him closely this season. If he doesn't breakout during the last 12 games I'd have reservations about resigning him.

Johnson is a rotational player at best. No way would I bring him back next season. If we don't sign someone we'll just have to rotate the other guys at RDE  and make upgrading the postion the 1st or 2nd priority in the offseason. Coleman needs to stay at FS. I'd put Griffin at SS and bench Boston.

Not much you can do at CB at this point.  McClain did start some games year out of necessity. Maybe he should get more playing time.  I think Bradberry will be a solid pro.  Bene is better suited as a nickel. At this point I wouldn't mind seeing Sanchez on the field. He's has a knack for finding the ball and we definitely need a playmaker in the secondary on the defensive side of the ball. Of course we'd have to deactivate someone from the active roster to move him up from the practice squad.

PS--Wasn't there talk at some point that Worley may actually be better suited to play safely in the NFL during the offseason?

If coples is still a free agent gettlmen is a stubborn idiot

He was signed by the Rams in March.  They cut him at the end of August.

No interest from anybody since then.  I'd say he's probably done.

There's nobody that's unemployed or easily attainable right now that's going to help us.

There are 31 other GMs who also don't see any reason to sign him, or even work him out for that matter.

That's a pretty good sign that you're probably done.

Maybe he'll get a look somewhere at some point, but nobody's calling him right now.  It ain't just us.

I honestly don't know what's happening with the defense. It seems like we can only rely on Kuechly to tackle everyone. KK and Star and slacking. And Ealy and Johnson aren't getting around the outside fast enough. The secondary is poopy. Given that Bradberry and Worley are rooks. But what happened to Kurt Coleman flying around? I really do miss Josh Norman though. Hell, even Roman Harper. But I think we still have plenty of time to turn this around. They just need to find whatever they had last year.
