Here is the thing.. Oher isn't the problem. He was the 15th best OT last year in pass protection but was awful in run blocking.

Remmers on the other hand, one of the worst OTs in pass protection but graded out well in run blocking.

I agree, we could use an upgrade for Remmers. There is a reason he floated around as much as he did before he landed here.

At this point it's too late. Oher got his extension. We could trade for Joe Thomas, but they won't because he's owed $10M each of the next 2 seasons.

If he's released, we won't have any dead money.  So, that point sucks.

you don't park a bentley in the hood and ask the first two people you see to watch it for you. That's what's going on with Cam

In addition Tolbert should have been long gone...  For him not to hold it down with Stewart out as usual proves them both useless in the big picture. Remmers is a backup, Oher is a backup, we essentially have no pass rush which is why we had a QB throw 500+ on us. Ealy is a backup, Charles should have not been resigned. Resigned to do what exactly? Exactly what we let him walk for to begin with. That's on DG too. Lets not even talk about the DBs. Success is not in the youth in many of these positions. So what some free agents are old, sign them cheap and let them help teach the youth. DG screwed us up and we have a moron dialing the offensive plays. NO GOOD! What happen when another QB throws 500+ more on us. THIS IS WHY THE LEAGUE DOESN'T TAKE US SERIOUSLY. WE ALWAYS FALL APART AFTER SUCCESS! Spend some money and help us DG!

It's nice to start acting like you're a genius when we're 1-3 but this is the same OL that went 15-1 last year. I'm not sure what happened to them but last year they came into the season as a huge question mark and ended up being strong right up until the super bowl.

Maybe the SB did expose them. Maybe everyone in the league is studying that film and it's just that bad.

Russell O and Oher are the same player to me. Okung struggled big time at the end of the year in SEA...hence why they let a LT walk. LT don't walk unless they are mediocre. So saying it was a huge mistake to not sign that guy is ridiculous. It's a reporter just looking for something to fix the problem that may well have just been an unfixable problem.

The Josh Norman issue is something I don't blame DG for. Maybe Norman ends up the exception but you can't pay corners who are gonna be 30 a giant long term contract. DG knew it...Norman knew it bc he wouldn't sign the franchise tag. You especially can't do it when you

A) Have to ensure you have money for Cam

B) Same for Luke

C) Olsen may need a short term deal

D) Star and KK are both younger and probably long term are of similar importance

E) Do you let TD walk bc you signed Norman to a huge contract?

How much of all this is fixed if we can just get a DL push? Probably most of it. So DGs reasons for playing "money ball" are more sophisticated than this writer understands. Do I wish we had Norman on the FT? Of course...it's a one year rental. But how does that affect the team for the next 2-3 years? Too soon to tell.

What I would say tho is if there is a pass rusher out there that DG can get he needs to try and get him.

Norman would have played under the franchise but DG pulled it out from under him.  Norman was fielding offers, like anyone would, but DG would lead you to believe he was being just difficult.  No, he wasn't, DG just does things different than the rest of the league and doesn't want to pay what players are worth, market value.   Short will be gone after this year for the same reason most likely.   I don't think anyone is saying "sign Norman to a long term contract" but it was completely stupid to not let him play a franchise year here, beyond stupid, actually.    Then, not even using the money saved to bring in a free agent to help, like the ones listed in the article.  Or even Weddle (you watch our safeties this year?).

This isn't baseball, and we're not the A's, and we're paying for it right now because we have sub-par talent at many positions.    This also isn't basketball where 2-3 stars can win you the game.   We have Cam yes, we have Luke, yes, but look at some of these positions we have filled with players that wouldn't start for most other teams.   Face it, DG swung and miss by being too cheap.  When you have a Super Bowl window, you sometimes need that player or two to get you over the hump.

Would Norman have really played though? Jeremy said a hold out was a real possibility

Point at one NFL player that has held out the whole season?   Norman himself said he was about to sign the tender and play here.

Moneyball is an eye grabber but the approach isn't the same really.

Billy Beane was/is a master at not so much the salary cap but creating an inflated value on certain positions who he THEN trades for a better more valuable player at a better price. I don't like getting nothing in return for Norman or Hardy (had no choice though).

Look to Seattle after they lost the SB as your hope. They stated 2-4 and went 10-6.
