How did it come that you are the only person that truly knows Smitty? You sound like you are at his house for Sunday dinner. You sound like you know him personally. Then you say "Football" Smitty is crazy. That sounds like he let you down, like it was personal. Maybe, just maybe, your bias is skewing your thinking.

someone responded the thought of 89 not jumping to retire here was 100% false.  THAT is assuming a lot about 89.   I disagreed with that and gave reasons why I don't think he overly cares about it if our front office is intact (and gave Steve quotes).

it is called an opinion.  I have a long track record of not getting emotionally tied to players.

I don't care if 89 "officially" retires here.  Means nothing.  He will always be viewed as a Panther.  People shouldn't care

I don't mind that you don't care about players. What is strange, is that you still have an opinion about the personal side of a player you are not emotionally tied to. And then telling people that the player is "Crazy", and doesn't care about this franchise. Then finish it off with, people shouldn't care.

 

My dad was a fan for 80 odd years. He barely knew the players names. But by God, they had better play well, and win. Cuz he didn't like his team losing. Being a LIons fan, and not losing? He was insufferable most game days. But he didn't care either. I am sorry. But to me. That is what you sound like.

 

If you only care about the team, and not the players. That is fine. Just don't expect the rest of us to follow suit.

 

IF Smitty gets any post career awards. A lot of Panther fans are going to want those awards to say "Panthers" on it. And I have a sneaky suspicion that Smitty will too.

 

Lots of us Do Care. You can tell us not to, but we are going to anyway.

Smitty will be in the Ring of Honor, and the Hall of Fame.

Best WR in Panther history, he is truly like no other. We were lucky he was a Panther. You put together a #89 all time greatest plays it would be lengthy and hilarious at times. The Houston game was classic Smitty. Yeah, he could be prickly at times but we just wish he was treated better going out the door. #89 actually carried the offense with the QB position in flux for many years. Respect
