Urgency intensifies for Panthers' defense

Those defensive stats are troubling...

If we played an easier schedule I would be optimistic but it really doesn't get any easier. This game against Dallas is a must win for us which isn't good considering they are coming off a loss and Romo usually plays pretty well against us. The only good thing is that they don't have TO anymore. The bad news is they still have Roy Williams and Jason Witten. If another TE freakin torches us again I am going to be pissed...

This team needs to get it together this week or the season for all intents and purposes is over.

this goes along with beason saying that he isn't fluid with meek's system.

The team is 0-2 and the defense still hasn't fully grasped the system installed by new defensive coordinator Ron Meeks.

Strong safety Chris Harris said Monday the defense needs to find the cohesion that's been missing “soon, before it's too late.”

The new defense features a Cover 2 zone pass system, which has proven effective elsewhere and which Meeks used in Indianapolis in partnership with former Colts coach Tony Dungy.

Defensive tackle Damione Lewis descrbied the defense as a “totally different system” from what former coordinator Mike Trgovac employed.

Harris said it's been a good change, albeit gradual.

the defense should be somewhat improved on monday. i would hope that the light goes on during the bye week when they are practicing if it doesn't happen before.

i'm just ready for them to stop sucking.

Well, I hope it's 'totally different', because I didn't see much defense out of Trgo's 'system' last year, especially in the later games. It stands to reason that some time will be needed to adjust to what Meeks has installed. If our offense can come together when the defense does, we may be alright. Of course, the STs need to provide some real coverage on kicks. Time will tell.

have you noticed that mr peppers stands around with his hands on his hips, so his knees wont get hurt, panthers should have sent the idiot walking and got someone who wants to play, as long as king julius stands around and makes his mil a game, the panthers will not only lose, but get creamed, by the way how about the clemson tigers defense, cant wait to we play sc in columbia, it will be a tought night for crazy spurrier

BY THE WAY I WAS AT TRAINING CAMP IN SPARTANBURG AND ALL PEPPERS DID WAS STAND AROUND WITH HIS HANDS ON HIS HIPS, HE JUST NEEDS TO GO, WISH I HAD A 90 JERSEY, I WOULD BURN IT IN EFIGY!

PEPPERS NEEDS TO GO OR SIT ON THE DAMN BENCH, HE SU???S

Defensive scheme looks exactly the same as it did last year, don't really see how the guys could be confused. It's a basic cover 2 scheme, we've seen it before, and we've used it before, I really don't understand how the players could be lost in this system. I think it's more of just overall poor coaching and average talent defensively.

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
