Geez, I am sure DG was thinking that we should bail on this year. Do people think really think our front office is trying to lose this year? If we had Norman instead of Bradberry we'd be 1-2. The reasons why we are 1-2 aren't CB related. Diggs is the #1 WR yardage wise after week 2 goes 4-40 and Bradberry is an inch away from his 2nd INT and we want Norman back?

This forum was really good in the offseason with tons of info, but 1-2 and it's poo. God forbid we lose to Atlanta. We might as well sit Cam and Luke and get a better draft slot.

I think Bradberry has played well and u might be right about the 1-2.  I am referring to not upgrading the tackles and DEs when we have 23 million just sitting there in a basket

I learned awhile back that in-season huddle just isn't for me. Better fans are in the off-season. In-season is far too many mood swings and bitachin for me. Tried the game threads once, ONCE. Sad the interweb is mainly used for either bitachin or braggin. Even the greatest season in panther history had same in-season BS.

Yeah, I may have to back away a bit. I just started coming here and loved it for all the off season stuff. I went to training camp for the first time with my boys and had a blast and got good info here. I enjoyed all the training camp battle and rookie talk and that all made it much more interesting when we saw the players and got autographs at camp.

Or, as KB_fan mentioned, when someone like her posts some good analysis, it's worth the read. It just gets tough to read some threads when you see the same complaints over and over. We should have kept Norman. We need to sign Hardy. We hate Shula or it's not his fault. Our OTs and DEs are holding us back. We should have spent the Norman money this year.

You're understanding.

The extra cap is being saved for the deluge of contracts coming up. Not all of these guys will re-sign with us, but after 2016 we have to deal with this:

Short, Remmers, Klein(*), Ginn, Johnson(*), Addison, Love and McClain

Doesn't seem too bad, only Short will likely break the bank/franchise tag. But wait, there's more. Here's what we have to deal with after 2017:

Davis, Stewart(*), Turner, Norwell**, Star, Benjamin***, Ealy, Gano, Boston and Benwickere

Now, if we stink maybe Short, Star, Turner, Norwell, Benjamin and Ealy will be cheaper, but those guys could all be pushing for top or second tier salaries at their positions, which adds up really fast. Could Short make $15M? Yes. Could Turner get the top guard contract and make over $10M? Yes. Could Benjamin have a great year and command top WR salary which is close to $15M? Yes. Could Ealy command $8M+ as a top 20ish DE? Yes. Could Norwell get $6-7M as a top guard? Yes. Could Star get a top NT type deal at $8M? Yes. Well, that is a potential $60M in salaries per year or $50M more per year than we pay them now. Let that sink in a bit, because the people who get mad about not signing an old Mario Williams at $8.5M per year aren't realizing what that might mean in terms of people we couldn't keep.

* Guys I definitely think won't resign with us unless they pull a Charles Johnson.

** Assuming top RFA tag in 2017 like Remmers.

*** KB will get a 5th year option in 2017 @ $8M, but he'll be an UFA in 2019 as will Kalil, Olsen and Funchess.

You're really worried about signing Ealy Gano Boston and remmers?

Thanks for providing names. I don't think adding a WR was realistic with Kelvin, Devin, Ted, Philly locked in already. Panthers are still at heart a 'Running team'.

The OT options really depends on how they fit the scheme, maybe that's the reason the team didn't pursue either of them

That's the problem right there, we couldn't go into this season with the mindset that this receiving core was set. If we learned anything from 2015 is that we couldn't trust this WR core to produce on a constant basis.

I agree. If you add Travis Benjamin or Mike Wallace what do you do with Ginn? Do you make him special teams only, because Benjamin/Wallace provide speed but with better hands. I think the goal was to bring back receivers Cam was familiar with and who he won a MVP throwing to, plus the return of Kelvin.

Part of the reason Cam won over MVP voters was cause are WR core was weak. If we aquired the guys we mentioned they would just pushed over the opposing receiver down the depth chart, not that hard to figure out. Outside of Kelvin the other guys are replaceable

Mitchell Schwartz or Kelvin Beachum  both major upgrades of what we have now,

Travis Benjamin or Mike Wallace would have fit perfectly in our receiving core. Both were affordable

I agree...Schwartz would have been a good add. You could throw Weddle in that list too
