The snapshot of the last 4 games only takes in playing really good defenses 3 times so of course our ppg will be down.  We didn't play many good defenses last year.  I have to agree with Rivera, when looking at those 4 games it has been mistakes like penalties and turnovers (mainly by the offense) that have lost us the 3.  Carolina has given up 70 total points with year.  32 points were given up on drives against the defense.  32 were off turnovers given up by our offense (including the safety).  Of the 24 points scored by Denver in the super bowl, 15 were off turnovers.  That's not including special teams mistakes either.  Clean up the mistakes and this team will be back to normal.

Totally agree that the offensive letdown is due to playing great (historically great in terms of Denver's D) defenses. The problem, however, is it seems like we aren't taking any adjustments away from playing those defenses. Denver and Minnesota beat us all 3x with basically the exact same gameplan (I do agree that against Minny we totally shot ourselves in the foot and should have put that game away in the first half). My concern is that while I'm not too worried for the regular season, defenses like Denver and Minny are what's going to be waiting for us in the playoffs on the road to the SB, and we haven't really shown a great ability to make coaching adjustments to help the offense take advantage of the aggressiveness of these defenses.

As I recall which can be wrong, we took the offer off the table from him. Even gentlemen mentioned that in a presser. Norman was upset at his agent as well for everything that hAppened

He waited too long to sign it, Greg Hardy signed the tag immediately which showed that he wanted to be in Carolina for at least that year.

i think it was a two-fold issue in negotiations.  norman's agent was a. extremely inexperienced as far as the NFL goes and b. not communicating what was going on clearly enough to his client.  parts a and b led to a situation where he was playing hardball with gettleman and negotiations stalled at a "we're not going one cent under this number" point.  meanwhile, josh norman wasn't fully aware of what was going on.  as far as gettleman knew, norman and his agent were on the same page, so he called the agent's bluff and rescinded the tag.  josh hit the roof and fired his agent (or had the intention of doing that; the NFL has weird rules about it) but by then it was too late.

Julius Peppers sitting on the franchise tag in 2009 was a big reason the panthers resigned Jake to that contract. Why tie up $14M if a long term deal cannot be worked out.

Happy Josh Norman is one push from going over the edge, a disgruntled one may have caused more harm than good.

I'm not arguing over keeping or not keeping...

it was mishandled because Gettlemen's actual plans were to keep him than he changed late on it.  That impacted his offseason.  If he we going to part with Norman he should of done it from the get go and reworked the team with that fact.

given the lateness/mishandle....that caused issues in draft current player options

we didn't tie up anything with Norman so in reality we should of been looking to fix weak areas that likely would be worse this year.

He thought a long term deal was possible which is why he tagged him.

Maybe the lateness had to do with getting a extra 3rd round pick next year for Norman and really liking the corners in the draft,

You do make a good point, our coaching staff might be doing it but in game adjustments have looked poor in those 3 losses (and that need to get better particularly comes playoff time).  I will say, we did adjust against Denver the second time we played them.  It was noted during the broadcast that to counteract the edge rushers for Denver in the season opener, Newton wasn't dropping as deep in the pocket as he did in the Super Bowl and our offense certainly looked better in that game (at least for a half) because of it.

I wish he would have been more concerned with going back to the SB this year

Geez, I am sure DG was thinking that we should bail on this year. Do people think really think our front office is trying to lose this year? If we had Norman instead of Bradberry we'd be 1-2. The reasons why we are 1-2 aren't CB related. Diggs is the #1 WR yardage wise after week 2 goes 4-40 and Bradberry is an inch away from his 2nd INT and we want Norman back?

This forum was really good in the offseason with tons of info, but 1-2 and it's poo. God forbid we lose to Atlanta. We might as well sit Cam and Luke and get a better draft slot.

The philosophy of going all in, rarely works. The Dream Team Eagles went all in for one year and sunk. The cowboys built a dynasty because Minnesota thought they were one player away and it set them back for years. Gettleman doesn't believe in a championship window or the one player away philosophy.

It's true that the off-season Huddle and in-season Huddle are VERY VERY different creatures.  Give it some time.  I too joined in an off-season. I'd been lurking for at least a full season before joining, (maybe even nearly two seasons... I forget), I was pretty surprised by the change.  Until I joined, I'd never been near the Huddle in the off-season.  Off-season Huddle was a revelation.  For one thing there are so many fewer threads that most topics get a lot more thoughtful discussion.  Plus it's a much smaller group of commenters and most everyone who is commenting knows their stuff pretty well, so the level of discussion is at a fairly high level.

To survive during the season:  Make a mental note of several Huddlers whose stuff you like to read and focus on posts they've started or topic threads they're active in.  Keep a thick skin, and don't let the wild swings of emotion week to week get you down too much.  Hopefully the Panthers will get back into a rhythm of winning this Sunday, and things will become a little more sane around here.
