The Problem with Charles Johnson Coming Back

The had one offensive td, one offensive drive for a fg, and one fg after a interception on our side of the field.  Defensive line, secondary, linebackers etc... was not the problem.  In fact, it really hasn't been a problem for the last two games.  Penalties, sacks (being on the receiving end), special teams screwups, turnovers, etc... are the problem we are having right now.

The problem is that every time we get into one of these defensive battles, their defense makes plays ours don't.

Charles Johnson coming back at a reduced rate allowed the Panthers to feel adequate at the DE position going into the year. What a steal! If he hadn't been resigned there would have been more focus on improving that position in FA and in the Draft. Forget the OT position...give me DEs

Pass rush cures all issues and masks a young or bad secondary. That is why 87 year old Terence Newman and the little 87 centimeter Munnerlyn owned us yesterday.

This is also why we had a better defense in 2013 than we did in 2015 despite the fact that we started Melvin White and Drayton Florence in the secondary.

Depends on what you mean by making plays.  If you mean pick 6's/scoring plays, those generally only happen if the offensive team makes a mistake.  We actually have made a few, especially against Denver, although imo Denver was our worst defensive performance of the year so far.

Im glad 95 is back. I think Johnson out there with the guys give our defense more a grown ass man feel. Im not sure he is a huge difference out there playing every snap instead of rotating but like most of you guys said there is not much behind him to do so. This board has completely given up on Delaire lol The edwards guy plays hard but I see him getting bumped back 3 yards every time a O Line touches him. I Do like the formation they use with him out there kind of like a 3-4 with Addison as a outside rusher.

Loads of you guys think Cash is the next TD but I personally think we could go into the draft for another LB. I fuging love Shaq and the tenacity he spears players with but he is best out in space or shutting off a big edge run. Our LBs do a lot of work and have to be wore ass out after games, the hits Luke TD and Shaq take from people blind siding them, TEs hitting them, Centers coming up and trying to blast them. When they are gassed on a long drive our entire defense looks different. Tired pass rush and tired LBs with a very young DB field is rough.

The Vikes are good on all 3 levels, have major depth on D line, 2 athletic freaks who hit at LB and they have outstanding Safety play to wipe up anything to get past them. If we had Harrison Smith I think our D would look a huge difference. Anytime we got a play past the 2 front layers we didn't pass that because the DBs were speedy and tackled well

Getts is well aware how the Patriots were slain by the Giant's DLine.

Panthro used to blame our ills on Deangelo Williams, apparently now it's CJ.

Both ineffective players, I see your point..

Snowball effect, the struggle is real.

The same reason why tolbert is still on team.. it's called being too loyal to vet players when it clearly impacts the team's performance.. ron has a history of doing this, he is literally john fox 2.0 right now.

Tolbert is bad.  Unless we need a yard a defense can almost count on him running as a down they should win.

Ron isnt the GM.  DG isn't Hurney either where he basically does whatever the HC wants

Gettleman signed both of them when they were free agents in the offseason. How is that Ron's fault? Was there another FB more capable than Tolbert on our 90 man roster at any point this offseason? Which DE do you want Ron playing instead of CJ? You need to look higher up the food chain than Ron if you want someone to blame for Tolbert and CJ being big parts of the team.

Williams wasn't good here.  There is a reason he lost weight after being fired.

Johnson isn't bad.  Johnson just isn't a starting caliber DE anymore.  Like last year, we only have rotational caliber DEs.....but unlike last year we have weaker DB play that doesn't help the DEs

People need to quit calling Tolbert a FB.  He is used as a RB on this team.  He plays the same calls Stewart would for the most part

Except he literally lines up as a FB in the running game reasonably often and it is an important position on the offense. We have no one else capable of doing that.
