Our defense is much better than advertised and has not been the issue, Defense has only been responsible for giving up a combined 20 points over the last two games. Offense and Special teams gave up 17 points against the 49'ers and 12 points today.  Defense only giving up 10 points per game over the last two games is really impressive even if our pressure getting to the QB hasnt been the greatest. it's also far from the cause of the issue.

Other good news is we played two of the 3 toughest teams we will play all year over the first 3 games, and we wont have our next major team to face till seattle on december 4th, the NFC south for the next 3 games, and arizona flying to us cross country after the Bye is just what the doctor ordered to right the ship.

we have the best offense and defense of any of the NFCS teams, and that's not open for debate.

The Rams and Chiefs have good fronts.  The Cardinals front is better than it was in January.  And Khalil Mack can wreck a game.  Before Seattle.

We've played 2 teams that have SB level defenses in our first 3 games. It gets easier from here, but we've got to make hay now.

It does not get easier from here...

Next 3 games are all division games with 2 on the road. Must win at least 2 of those 3 games.

after the BYE...

The Panthers have the first 6 games with 3 of them on the road - all on the west coast. Oakland, Arizona, Kansas City and Seattle are all SB contenders. I would argue that KC is better than Denver this year. I also believe Arizona and Seattle will be tougher than a Minnesota team that is falling apart with Sam Bradford at QB. The Rams are a road trip to the west coast with a strong defense. The Saints are a must win game and it is smack in the middle of all that mess. The Panthers will travel to Oakland and then stay on the west coast for an entire week. Then the Panthers have to arrive at Seattle.

The easy part of the schedule does not start until the final 4 weeks of the season.

Oh good lord I don't agree. Yeah I'd be really depressed right now if I had the views you have of those teams.

The good news is that Cam Newton couldn't have played any worse and with all the distractions surrounding the team right now, it wasn't entirely unexpected that we would have trouble maintaining focus on the game. When your home city is being lit on fire and the National Guard is called in to make sure the game actually happens, needless to say it's a stressful environment. Cam looked comfortable early, but he fell out of rhythm when he hurt his leg. It's the first time in a long time I have seen him jumpy behind center. I thought we should have pulled him for DA at that time and let the running game and defense take the game from there. He knew he was going to have trouble getting out of pressure being banged up and it caused him to be indecisive with the ball. As time went on, he started to force the ball down field and make poor choices as opposed to holding the ball and taking the sack. Play calling should have adjusted and gave him some three step drops, but we stuck with the long developing plays that define our offense. When those aren't working and Cam is immobilized, he's a sitting duck back there. Lots of coverage sacks. KB couldn't get himself open and Funchess couldn't either. They game planned for us perfectly.

The better news is that there's literally no way that KB and Funchess can play this bad again next week. There's no way, unless he's hurt, that Cam will play this bad next week.
