A worrisome precedent re: headshots and sideline concussion protocol

ahh well i'm only half watching.

still though

You bring up some very valid points.  If the NFL doesn't get a handle within the next couple of games, end of the 1st quarter, it will literally grow out of hand.  Coaches like bilicheat will exploit the rules to the max to win a game.

Don't need full time refs. They just need to allow replays like college. There's no red flag or a competent ref on the field. If the replay booth sees something they stop play and look. If they see targeting then the player is ejected. We have replay already. Not hard. The refs suck for us all the time, but in case they miss it, it's reviewed be replay.

Lord knows that would help us not waste timeouts if we weren't in control of that red hanky.

College doesn't have automatic replays for injuries or penalties either.  If a player is ejected on the field for targeting, the replay is used to confirm the call. You would need to enact the rule change first and then tie it to replay for confirmation. That has nothing to do with the need for full time refs.  Full time refs mean they have more skin in the game and more time to do simulations and talk together in the offseason so they are more prepared when the season starts.i instead of scrambling once the season is already underway.

It's hard to criticize the league for trying to cut down on player injuries by drawing guys to the sideline if there's a chance of concussion. Several people on these boards transcended Panthers fandom and called for Cam to have been pulled out of the game for a proper examination despite the fact that we all really wanted him to stay in and win the game. And the Panthers may have followed protocol, there are plenty of sources saying he was checked out during the commercial break, or off-camera.

Tonight the Jets popped Tyrod Taylor in the head and the refs immediately called him to the sideline. The Bills had to downgrade to EJ Manuel, and a few plays later he threw a pick that may well have been on target to Sammy Watkins if Taylor (who's looked like a pro bowler tonight) had been in. The defender in question was flagged, but obviously stayed in and was not called for unsportsmanlike conduct (and nor should he have been.)

Actually he wasn't flagged.  There was a flag on the play but it was illegal touching the WR downfield because they said the ball was still in the hands of Taylor untucked.

but no flag on the head shot

Exactly what I posted on the previous page. There should be no complaints about Taylor going out. He looked like he was out. Cam never had that type of reaction. He looked like it hurt, but never looked like he was actually out.

Cam kind of did on that last play.  He laid there lifeless for a minute.

I'm a the only one seeing this as a positive? Given that Cam usually gets hit in the head when he is a passer, and is quite good to protect himself from head hits when he is a runner, I feel this precedence will benefit Cam. Hochuli sent Taylor out because he stayed on the ground for some seconds before getting up. But with this focus, I feel the refs will pay more attention to head hits on Cam when he is a passer, and if Cam is hit in the head again, he will only be sent to the sidelines if there are any signs of concussion after the hit (laying on the ground, confused when the refs approach him). I hope this focus continous, because the refs can only send Cam to the sideline if they acknowledge the head hits, and that usually happenes to Cam as a passer. Then they have to throw the flag, and the following 15 yard penalties will hopefulle stop defenses from headhunting like the dirty Broncos

But I still don't care a second for Ed "you're not old enough to get that call" Hochuli

NFL is trying to kill running QB's. If your going to flag dancing you should flag helmet to helmet.
