A worrisome precedent re: headshots and sideline concussion protocol

This is where the Officials must be competent. The Panthers should have been the beneficiaries of at least 3 roughing penalties last Thursday. And the players flagged one illegal hit from ejection.

All least 2 if not 3 were intentional which by definition should be a foul. If it wasn't bad enough for a penalty then at least both players should be checked out. To me the smaller guy and/or the person being hit should get the benefit of the doubt to discourage bigger guys from taking unnecessary shots on smaller guys. This doesn't have to be a rule so much as a leading principle.

It's where the system breaks down.

Multi Billion dollar industry and we have quite a few meatheads officiating it.

Hire full-time guys whose job is nothing but this.

Make them truly accountable for blown calls.

Sprout wings and fly.

Number three will probably happen before one and two do.

Its not as if there are better refs out there who are holding out for full time jobs and all they need to do is hire them.

I immediately thought the same thing. Others have been saying it. The blueprint is out there.

DA just became very important. But I have faith in Cam understanding that they are out for blood. And when they give him their best shot...

Black Sails recently became one of my favorite shows of all time.

My issue is the NFL can not put poo in the rule book making acts against the head illegal, but then choose who they will allow it on. Protect the head or play old school football, but that means every defender's head is fair game now.

This is how football was played. Head shots everywhere, but every team knew they could do it, and they knew to expect it and return it in kind. Now you have certain teams playing by the rule book and other teams taking a poo on the rule book. Then the officials get to choose when to enforce it. It is ridiculous.

So, I propose that Cam and his blockers ready themselves to protect the head of their offensive players the way it was done. Attack the head of every defender by targeting it with a shoulder or punch to the helmet.  Expect every defender to launch and spear. Deliver a blow to the crown of their helmet with your full body weight. They will quickly learn to stop it as they will knock themselves out with the concussion protocol if they do not injure themselves permanently.

Studying Earl Campbell, Mike Alstott, Bo Jackson, Larry Csonka, John Riggins and Tom Rathman will show you how an offensive player targets the crown of the head anticipating a defender leading with the head. The shoulder and forearm impact the top of the defender's helmet and then slides over to the back of the helmet. Then the offensive player leans down with all their weight on the back of the defender's neck while driving through the defender with the legs. That is how you make defenders stop attacking with their head.

The art of the stiff arm is ready to come back and it is now open season on every defender's head.

right, but losing your shitty WLB for a few plays is a whole let less harmful than the other team losing its QB

We lost Kuechly for 3 games last year due to a concussion. We were lucky that AJ is as good a backup as he is. Not every defender is shitty.

The problem with a concussion time out is what is to prevent Jeff Fisher from sending in the 53rd player on his team to hit someone in the head when he is out of time outs at the end of the game.

The fact that there are not 53 active players. Not to mention its not always that easy to sub players when the other teams goal is to prevent it.

If a team really wanted to do this they could just hire a streaker who responds to a text message and runs across the field or just fake an injury.
