Cam Newton: My job is not to lobby for my health

top dawg

Recommended Posts

I have no doubt that Cam takes his health serious. I also have no doubt he's thinking long term. I watched and all I took from that was pure sarcasm and "let's move on." He wants to keep the focus football and not the extra stuff. I'm totally getting his love hate relationship with the media. It took me 6 years, but I get it.

He should just go the dry and sarcastic route just to screw with the NFL.

"I'm feeling great. I think. Hard to think with all this ringing after last game."

"I feel like I've got at least like 7 more games before I'm permanently disabled so I'm not too worried."

"The NFL does a great job protecting me. I mean I'm not dead...yet."

345 Park Avenue would combust if he dropped one of those.

This is gold and I can hear him saying this. That statement has Cam-sarcasm all over it.

So would ESPN. They would talk about it 24/7.

Letting the guy get headshot all game was probably the NFL's way of teaching him a lesson, to fall in line, and don't create any controversy.     Listening to his comments since the game, it looks like its worked, but I don't blame him either.

I agree the league wants to break Cam. They don't like who he is. Pretty soon he will be conditioned bc he has too much to loose. The dancing will get less from him, these are grown men with children egos....I laughe'd at Ray Lewis when he said that was football at its best, but was it fair. No one is saying whether it is fair, for him to be judged differently on hits. You don't have to hit someone in the head to be physical ..So smart but dumb at the same time...toward the end Shannon made a good point for cam but Lewis jumped in and cut it off. What if he had died on that field that nite what would they have been saying?  Should Cam pay for who is with his very own life when other qbs don't,  should he not have the right to be qb? People are so nonchalant about life. Now you see why America is so f-up right now!

I don't think he's falling in line or doing whatever the NFL wants him to do. Part of it is a natural maturation. The other half is Cam doesn't what to be bothered with anything that's not football. I doubt the dancing and such will get less. It just gets different. Cam knows everything he says/does is scrutinized no matter how harmless it is. His whole presser yesterday was sarcastic as hell. We may be on track to get asshole Cam all season.

Some of you can be sarcastic all you like, but one thing that you can't get around is the fact that it is your job to lobby for your own health, regardless of who you are, or whatever job you do. To suggest otherwise is at worst simply asinine as far as I'm concerned, or at best just wanting to be contrary for the sake of being contrary.

I didn't see the interview, so perhaps Cam was being sarcastic. Good for him. It doesn't take being an asshole to speak up for yourself. You don't even have to be nasty or sarcastic about it, or anything of the nature, just calm, cool and collected. To suggest that he would lose whatever support he has because he said that the refs were allowing him to get mauled in  a matter-of-fact manner is going overboard in my opinion. If Brady were in the same predicament, Belichick or Robert Kraft, no one would be upset if they said something. Probably to the contrary. And, in fitting with that, it's not really a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't situation. It's not a surprise or out of the ordinary when a man speaks up for himself. More than a few leaders in the NFL have done it.

Cam previously spoke out at one point about a ref telling him he isn't "old enough" to get a call.

He hasn't been afraid to speak up. But everytime he does, the media tries to turn it into a distraction for the team. They drilled him over the Super Bowl postgame, and he's still getting poo for it to this day. It's no surprise whatsoever that he is unwilling to give these assholes anymore fuel to attack him with.

However, it is asinine to insinuate that he is unaware, or unwilling to acknowledge/rehash this continually because he is simply not concerned enough about his health considering he and the team are currently focused on our upcoming opponent, not the Denver Broncos.
