Ryan Kalil thinks refs should be full-time

NFL refs make on average about $180,000 a year for their part time gig.  Yeah, NFL refs probably don't want to be full time because that is SWEET part time money.

NFL is most definitely paying those guys.

Make it full time and maybe you lose some of these current dudes who have it made.  But you build a better group of refs going forward.

This is the reason why they aren't full time. They make a LOT of money for a few hours a week and all of them have day jobs. No way theyd ever go for a full time gig. Its never gonna happen.

Current crop is just trying to use leverage that "they" won't do it.  You know what, I bet a lot of major conference college guys would like to make 200k a year as a full time job refereeing football and some current NFL refs.

Not having refs go full time because Ed Hochuli likes it as a part time gig and wouldn't be full time....isn't a reason not to have full time refs.  You take a good ref and make it his full time job and he would be every bit as good as some of these more senior NFL refs doing it part time

it will eventually happen IMO.   Change always happens when you do silly things and your best rebuttal is "but we have always done it that way"

league is shifting in a direction where the shield and owners can't continue to grandstand about things being important......and having part time refs doing a poor job enforcing their grandstanding.

I don't see the NFL ever going away in the near future.  So as pressure keeps building for safety....that is a bullet they will eventually have to bite.

Yeah but I dont see enough pressure on them to do it yet. I barely hear about full time refs, this was probably the first time I heard about this issue this year. Doesnt change need more energy behind it? Or do you think the players/NFLPA will push for this? Maybe in the new CBA? Either way I dont think anything significant is happening until then.

Wow I didn't think it was that much.  Hell of a gig

Screw losing those current dudes who are a bunch of old fan boys waddling around.  We need some refs that run 4.4 40s and can shed blocks if need be.

the money is getting beyond comical.

Eventually refs will butcher a big enough game (with a big enough team).....where they will cave to it as a means to keep their money maker appear more credible.

in recent years, with the HD and camera angles....crap ref work and bias is becoming to evident in calls or the league to continue to deny.

Here is the full audio of Kalil's interview with Adam Schein. He did great and it's worth the listen.

I agree with Ryan Kalil.

Do you think the NFL needs full-time referees? Tell me your thoughts.

I like the PR move from Kalil. After last years Ed Hochuli debate I think Cam may have thrown the refs under the bus. Kalil is doing some damage control maybe trying to get the refs on our side, plus speaking the truth.

I don't think it matters if these ref's were part time or full time...if they don't feel like a guy is 'old enough' to get certain calls then what else is there to say?  Its more along the lines that they need to place a 'penalty challenge flag' in the game now and you get the same amount as a challenge.

With all the changes Goodell has made & is making, how is this not a priority? Instead of a better officiated game, lets move kickoff & touchbacks 5yds, because it makes for a better game... Rather than focus on the game's integrity, lets get rid of players saluting, hulking, celebrating or jumping up & down after a play...Dont worry about what is wrong & could be improved, focus on insignificant parts of the game that will have minimal impact....

The refs deserve to be called out. It's obvious that there is a bias against Cam with the way he's officiated.

Also, no one would've ever known what Hochuli told Cam if a reporter wouldn't have asked Cam about it after the game.
