Just curious how do you feel about the defensive play calling against Denver. Those big runs they had for TD's is that personel problem or mcdermotts fault?

Some of both. Personnel in terms of our LBs over-pursuing and some missed-tackles by our DBs. I'm no DC and I don't have the numbers of how many times the LBs blitzed but I am a big fan of our base D. Let our front 4 try to pressure if they can. let our stud LBs read and react - whether that be in run support or in coverage.

I think both game plan and execution will tighten up.

Edit: I know some of the personnel calls are dictated by the offense, but I'd like to see more Shaq and more Addison.

My gripe(s) with Shula have to do with the lack of certain plays in the playbook.

1) Cam needs more 3 steps drops to get rid of the ball in a hurry. A lot of our pass plays take too long to develop in the face of a fierce pass rush. A slant or a curl from time to time would help.

2) A screen now and then would slow down the pass rush of the opposing team because the could just pin the ears back and come after Cam on 3rd and long. The Broncos killed us on the CJ Anderson screen that went for a TD in the 4th quarter. A play like that seems tailor made for Fozzy, Stewart, or even Tolbert. In fact, didn't Fozzy score a TD against the Cardinal in the playoffs back in 2014?

3) How about a draw play? Yesterday I saw several teams convert 3rd and long by calling draw plays to the RB's. Just don't give it to Tolbert on a 3rd and long.

I think Shula does a good job in the 1st half.  When teams (like the Broncos) make adjustments our offense sputters and he doesn't seem adept at Re-adjusting to the countermoves of the defense.

I'm sorry I mean Chudzinski was with us in 2011. Regardless we had a good offense that year and Chud isn't good.

A good offense?  A wise man once said 'Stats are for losers, the final score is for winners.'  Chud won 6 games.  Shula has never missed the playoffs as our OC.

That big stretch to say that most of the credit for that goes to Shula..but you are doing the same thing when you put most of the blame on him

Well it's true isn't it? Why did we nearly blow so many huge leads last year? And Week 1 already blew a 10 point lead with getting ball first at half? Because he isn't aggressive and you know the play will go something like hb draw, read option or so on. Sure the defense gave up points, but if we just kept scoring, even if it is fg's we would win. Instead we settle for so many 3 and outs.

You need to go back and look at what went wrong with each drive in the 2nd half vs Denver.  Its wasnt all Shulas fault but its easy for people to say that it was, so that they dont  have to go back and figure out what actually happened throughout the course of the game.  I'm not saying that every play call that comes from Shula's mouth is the greatest play ever, but your criticism is about as unfair as the hate that Cam gets.  Yes, some teams came back on us.. Obviously, the play calling will get somewhat conservative when playing with a big lead. but i dont get how Shula gets more blame for giving up the lead than the defense.    There were plenty of games where we didnt give up a lead.  We scored 500 points last year.  17-2 record. Number one scoring offense in the league.  We lost last week because we missed a game winning field goal.   Put it into perspective.  I have heard several other teams coaches talk about how diverse we are and how hard it is to prepare for our offense...  We must not be as predictable as you think we are.  Shula has become the scapegoat.

Doesn't want the MVP carrying the ball 11 times but in the game where he took 10934039 head shots, he keeps calling QB draws and read options on every other play. Shula at his finest.

Cam does audible sometimes.. Shula is not accountable for all of Cams runs..

Shula's idea of an innovative play to catch the defense by surprise is to take the MVP of the league out from behind center in the biggest game of his life, and put Ted Ginn behind center at a moment when we need a sustained drive the absolute most.

Ugh.
