How concerned are you about the defense?

I'm extremely concerned. We only have a sample size of 1, but this might be the worst Panthers defense since 2012 just because of the secondary. Tre Boston couldn't cover OR make tackles against Denver. Kurt Coleman couldn't tackle. James Bradberry did pretty well for a rookie corner, but he had his poor moments too. Worley is so bad right now that he was a surprise non-starter and kept f'ing up on special teams. Bene was the reason we let a rookie fullback rumble 35 yards or whatever it was for a touchdown.

We were very fortunate that we had a first-time quarterback out there that made some really stupid decisions or we would have been blown out thanks to the putrid play of the defense. Our secondary guys look less like typical Panthers starters and more like Saints castoffs.

Think the coaches can somehow scheme around this or are we going to lose multiple games this year because of the scrub play back there?

I'm not.  The sky isn't falling. It's one game against the defending super bowl champs on the road and carolina almost won.  Not seeing why everyone is over reacting.

We made a second year 7th round QB from Northwestern look like a legit NFL QB and CJ Anderson look like Adrian Peterson.

The Broncos lost a lot of pieces over the offseason. They aren't nearly the team they were last year but we sure made them look like it.

The Broncos defense is perhaps not what it was, but the offensive line is improved and I'd argue that a mobile Siemian is at least as effective as the husk of Peyton Manning that was back there last year since it adds dimension to the playcalling. If anything, I'd suggest that folks that thought the 2016 Carolina defense would be as good or better than the 2015 version were setting their expectations too high. While there is absolutely work to be done and much room for improvement (particularly in the tackling) I think holding Denver to 21 points was a positive sign.

I'm much more worried about the pass defense than I am about the run defense.

In run defense, Luke and TD both had pretty poor games by their standards. Luke was on the wrong side of the play a few times and TD got absolutely lit up by the Broncos FB. That is not something that I expect to continue at all. The 2nd unit on DL is an issue with the interior getting pushed around too much and Delaire and Addison are pretty useless against the run but I think it should be ok.

In pass defense, I really don't trust our front four to generate a ton of pressure outside of KK up the middle which means we will have to manufacture pressure through blitzing and that is where the problems with the secondary come in. If the front 4 isn't generating pressure by themselves then the secondary is going to get shredded. If we are having to blitz to generate pressure then I don't trust the secondary to hold down their coverages in man to man long enough for the QB not to be able to hit a hot route when he recognizes the blitz. Siemian was hitting his first read on just about every passing attempt against us.

What difference does it make if the opposing team is not stopped from scoring?

i don't care what the statistics are, when they needed the stops they didn't get them. And but for poor QB decisions from a first year QB, it would have been worse

a lot of money and draft picks spent on that defense as our starting QB gets the crap beat pu is him...again

wanna be the best, beat the best. We are oh and two against the best in. 7 month span

When all is said and done this season, I expect the Broncos to have a bottom 10 ranked offense.

Only allowing 21 points is a bit misleading. We didn't force them to settle for a single FG attempt and we were saved by multiple Broncos turnovers when they were in scoring position. We easily could have allowed far more than 21 points. No way to sugarcoat it, the D had a pretty poor showing.

Maybe we aren't either??? Only time will tell. Give it a few  games and let's see if they get their crap together.
