If you were forced to work a minimum wage job basically being people's slave for 45 minutes or more, you'd think you were entitled to at least minimum wage. That's $7.25 an hour, and I illustrated that, in several states, these people get $2.13 and hour.

Throw in a swamped time frame, undependable co-workers, poor management, etc. and add in people with the shitty mindset of "oh these servers (slaves) are so entitled" and you get a big effing problem...

I've worked in the service industry. I know when something is not the servers problem.

I also expect my server to communicate any problems that aren't seen. If they fail to do that, then it isn't my problem.

I'm a fantastic tipper, dispite the fact that I'm not rich.  I'm that way, cause of my time in the service industry.

I also have no problems giving no tip to people who think they can give me shitty service, and still get a tip from me. Kiss it.

That falls into the everybody is a winner and all the kids gets a trophy mentality.

It's that mentality that forces us assholes to be assholes.  You know why?  Because you reward even horrible service with a tip that doesn't do anything.  P55's  lower tip with suggestion on napkin is nice, but no tip is immediate feedback and I don't have to waste my time writing it down.

I have worked off tips before, and it was really good when kitchen was moving fast,  and worse when the kitchen was slower, but it was never an issue about level of service from me.  Usually as long as you were friendly, set expectation, and attentive the tips were good to great.  Add in a joke or 2, pay attention to the little kids, and make sure glasses were filled then tips got really good (mostly).

I rather be the asshole with my tip money than the sucker who paid for bad service.

10% is next to nothing, not a trophy. How many times do you go out to eat and spend $127 on a meal? That's like an every 5 years type thing for me, that's $12.70 at maximum I'll ever have to shell out for bad service. More realistically though, if I'm at Olive Garden and have a $25 bill, $2.50 shouldn't be anything to me and $2.50 sure as hell isn't changing the life of an Olive Garden waitress. If you wanna label me a "sucker" for dropping a whopping $2.50 tip for poor service, go right ahead.

I will NEVER top less than 20%, even if I get poor service.  And the reason is that you have NO idea why you got poor service.  The server may be having a god awful day...they may have had a tragedy in their life that day...the kitchen may have screwed up...they may be covering a second shift or two areas.  I ALWAYS give them the benefit of the doubt.

I do this because of a meal that I had about 10 years ago.  Service was horrible...worst that j had ever had.  I was getting pissed and decided I was going to really give it to the waitress and let her know she was bad at her job.  I told her that I hoped she was having a. bad day, because otherwise she should find a new job.  The poor girl just broke down crying....her husband had left her and her 3 yo son the day before.  I felt like total poo.  Gave her a $100 tip on a $60 bill.

Decided that day that they get the benefit of the doubt.

I went to Burger King once, in high school, and used a 25 cent coupon I had... The woman taking my order said "wow you saved a whole quarter"...

I proceeded to sit down, eat my meal, and leave "fug BK" scrawled on the table in about 15 packs worth of ketchup upon my departure...

It was a totally shitty thing to do, and the girl that pissed me off probably didn't even have to clean it up...

But, I still consider that a less shitty thing to do than to not tip at least 15% on the worst service you've ever had in your life... Because that lady at Burger King was paid (and/or whoever had to clean up my mess,) back then, probably double what most servers are today...

Restaurants exploit their servers by paying them poor wages, and you're doing nothing about it by your petty non-tips...

I'd much rather you cause a scene, flip a table, or do something to demonstrate your displeasure other than passive-aggressively shorting someone who's had to resort to a lower tier job/wage for whatever reasons in their lives.

How poor are you people that you can't afford a 10% tip? Yet many of you have enough disposable income to gain access to the TMZ "private" forum on this site? That $5 per month you pay for All-Pro on the Huddle is the equivalent of not 1, but 2 bad 10% tips on dining out per month.

That's the problem, you think it's about the money.  It's about the level of service.  If you tip regardless, then it's like saying hey if you can live with 10% continue to give shitty service.

I have no problem paying for good service. I think it's counter productive and doing everyone else a disservice by tipping bad service.

Who the fug are you, or any of us for that matter, that you get to just go out and demand service by whatever preconceived standards you may have?

Wow a lot of very generous people on here.

for all the charlatans in this thread - do you tip everyone in a service role? Your bus driver? Travel agent? Police man? Teacher? Builders? Should we just add 20% on to all services that we buy? Maybe you guys should just pay an extra 20% tax and save yourself the hastle?

None of those jobs you listed make $2.35 an hour.  Thanks for playing though.

are they paid $2.13 an hour?

And, for the record, I do go out of my way to do something for those types of people that help me.

Sounds like you guys should spend all this energy protesting for a minimum living wage instead of arguing with everyone on here about tips. To be honest I'm not sure I believe you that people earn that little but I guess here in the UK we introduced a minimum wage a while back to make sure employed people didn't need to rely on the generosity of others to earn a living wage.

    • He was just exaggerating and joking I think--suggesting that I thought Tremble and Thomas are better--I was not comparing talent--I was comparing moves the team is making.  Frankly, if we are going to add a TE, I really like Taylor from LSU.  He is smooth and can play.  Won't cost us a first rounder either.
