Oh DeAngelo....

People can do what they want, of course, but I always tip normally even if the service isn't great or if I'm just getting takeout. These people don't make minimum wage, and you don't know the reason behind the poor service. Could just be a day where nothing is going right. I don't feel the need to make it any worse without knowing the circumstances.

Bad service = bad tip.

If you leave a good tip regardless that does nothing to encourage good service.

That's the way it works.  I was a waiter in college and if I gave poor service then I simply didn't deserve a good tip.

I lasted about a week as a waiter.

We usually give around 18-25%... whatever makes the numbers round off nicely... If service is exceptionally bad, we may give closer to 10%...

Also, I didn't need any more evidence to know that DeAngelo Williams is a pretty petty human being.

If you want to make a statement, talk to the manager about coaching up his staff...

Don't be a little twit and tip poorly. You got mad that the Panthers didn't want to pay you for poor service, so you're sinking to the level you've spent a couple years now throwing jabs at. Good job, moron.

1. DeAngelo was a notoriously poor tipper here in Charlotte. He once pulled this at 521 BBQ and left a very poor tip for my ex-girlfriend who was working there at the time. She said she went out of her way to provide him great service because she's a Panthers fan.

2. Lots of you guys are sounding ignorant at best, assholes at worst. Unless someone straight up cusses you out or spits in your food, you ALWAYS tip at least 10% no matter how bad the service. These people make basically nothing as their base salary and rely on you for tips. Don't think that's fair? Then don't eat out or eat at McDonald's.

would pie this twice if I could...

Most of the people here agreeing with DWill probably generally tip around 10-15% for even great service.

I've left a penny for a tip. I really don't give a damn how much $$ you make. If you give good service you get a good tip. Decent service decent tip. Shitty service, well you get it right? I guess people feel like since he's got it he should give it. Nah that's bull he's gotta work for his server should work for theirs. Quit thinking they're untitled to anything.

My general rule is if you dont tip at all then it appears that you are a cheap bastard and the waitress gets no idea what she did wrong or needs to correct.  A 75 cent tip on a 20 dollar meal would get the message across but not on a 128 dollar meal. Now the customary 15- 20 % tip on a 128 dollar meal should be roughly 20-25 dollars.  So the 75 cents is less than 1% and again just appears cheap.  I will typically give 5-10% if the service is not good with a note on the napkin about why I tipped that low.   I often go to the same places more than once and like having a relationship with the servers and want them to know I tip well and this ensures I get good service.
