I understand leaving a bad tip if there's bad service, regardless of how much money you make.

I also know there are people that never tip worth a damn and look for any minor excuse to justify it, even though it's something they do ALL the time.

If the issue in question occurs less than 10% of the time, it is not worth the energy to address it. Hopefully, it is less than 5% of the time.

It is an expected expense of doing business in life. It is an expected expense of living life.

What you make is irrelevant because you are making the decision to go out and be a patron of such service.

Actually, I think that it is especially relevant, especially when it comes to setting a maximum everyday tip (holiday tips, special occasions, or extra spectacular service can certainly go amazingly higher). There's a responsibility thing here and we often poo-poo on people saying they have to live within their means.

I'm not trying to force the server to live within their means, I'm trying to live within mine. I tip as part of an unspoken social contract, but it depends on quid pro quo and a certain understanding that I'm buying a meal and you're bringing it out to me. A great server is a wonder and a pleasure to encounter, and they should be rewarded, by both me and the restaurant owner. Somehow, though, the customer is the only one in the equation that gets stuck with that particular bill.

Bronn has proven to be a bigger asshole than any of the non tippers he's talking about. I think I know who I'd rather be around.

Does Bronn go yelling at people at his job when they throw the plastic bottle in the trash instead of the recycling bin. Give this man a pacifier rofl.

Bad service = bad tip you're in the minority and rightfully so.

I've worked in services and it's horrible and people in general are poo even the ones who do leave tips. It'd be better if we did away with it completely and the companies pay them like regular employees(which they should be). Left as is it will be a poo show but I do agree that there are a lot of people out there that don't want to tip even from good service which is wrong IMO. People also know when it's not the servers fault so stop acting like we don't and most people won't blame the server for the kitchen's fug up.

They need to increase their value and then leverage their value.

Life will have its poo moments for everyone. You have to invest wisely during those poo moments. Do not miss your opportunities, and if your time has a greater value than the work you are doing then do more with your time and less with the crap work you are receiving.

If someone chooses to place their time on living in a roach infested house for 12+ hours a day, then I would tell them there are better ways to invest your time for the next 2 to 3 year struggle.

Nice generic, uninsightful response there

If I get shitty service they at least get 10%.  They don't make squat.  I raise the tip depending on the service.  A smile goes a long way.  Frown and you get 15%.

What if they do not serve you and it is no different than if you picked up the food to go and sat at their table?

Do you still tip 10%?

honestly I'm usually the same way, only b/c I'm a nice guy. But if you tip servers 10-15% every time without taking their service into consideration, what incentive are you giving them to deliver quality service to the next customer?

Yes I know they make minimum base salary, but a waiter can make a customers experience very unpleasant with shitty service, not to mention you're already paying a poo ton of money for the food alone.

Ask the server if they want 10% and you to speak to their manager with them present, or no tip at all.

Can you guess the servers response to that question 9 out of 10 times?

You can always give the server the choice. Interesting, how people start to see value when they are confronted with it.

If I were DWill, I would go back to the restaurant. Have a sit down with the manager and the server. Then I would tell them what I expect from them and what I will be doing in the coming days with our conversation. Their decision will determine my actions.

I am sure they would rather take the loss of the tip due to their crappy service.

One of the times I left a penny, the waitress brought out my food and disappeared. I don't mean disappeared like she was busy at another table, I mean 45 minutes later and nothing. I had to flag down another waitress for drink refills a few times so I gave the original waitress a penny and the one who helped when she didn't have to a normal tip.

The only other time I did it the guy was just a rude jackass who wasn't much help at all
