Spelling the entire defensive line at the same time

Just looking over the game a bit.

The Panthers starting defensive line played 5 snaps, then all of them were replaced for two plays. The Broncos gained 20 yards in those two plays.

I don't recall the Panthers ever spelling every DL starter all at once. Usually sub in at most 2 at a time.

What gives? Altitude?

Altitude game plan, Didn't work out to well.

It was but a rotation is bringing in a guy to give the starter a breather. If Short and Star were winded at that point, that's a problem. A rotation is also bringing in a fresh guy like Butler when the OL is tired. I remember thinking that the whole DL was replaced and that IMHO isn't the rotation we wanted to see.

ETA: I liked the Butler pick and love his upside like the sack. That said, I sure didn't expect him to ever be out there that early and that much, especially without Star or Short next to him.

The backup DT's didn't exactly play a ton. Butler and Soliai only played about 20/60 snaps which is pretty standard for our typical DT rotation and if anything is on the low side of the norm. It's usually closer to 60/40 rather than 66/33.

The injury to Cox definitely messed up Gettleman's plans in terms of DE depth, plus Miley didn't show the promise we'd been hoping for.   Now Delaire is getting badly beaten.  UGH.

I was thinking that with the problem, we might have kept Kyle Love around, giving us extra DT depth and allowing us to swing KK outside on some plays.

Thoughts?

I kinda like it. Love is still available.

Neither back up end can set the edge and are both pretty much pass rush specialists. Really Delaire doesn't even fall into that category. He just isn't good at anything right now. If I am Denver and I see Addison and Delaire out as the 2 DEs I am running the ball every time. With any edge presence they wouldn't be able to double team both DTs. So I can't really blame Soliai and Butler.

I have seen the entire line replaced before early here (can't remember if it was Rivera or Fox) but it was done as a message/punishment early in a game.   They weren't doing quality work and the coach literally sent in the 2nd string for a couple snaps as a slap in the face.   It was talked about post game.

I've been hoping and waiting. I think Hardy would be the most cost effective as well as best option to help our pass rush.

Even if we did want him, would he come back. I saw on his Twitter he said we aren't a family like everyone says.

Denver also had already picked up 2 first downs by that point.

I'm going w/ punishment for not getting the job done as expected and trying to inspire them to step up.

If it was for altitude or something I would think there would have been more examples of that playing out.  There were lots of spots we could of given guys some rest at other spots.

I think you misread.  He retweeted the post saying we should bring him back.  He then said there's NOTHING like family.  WE ARE his family.  He talks about #Broz with Gross (who calls him a great guy, very smart, gracious, will be here a long time, etc.-from a guy who went against him every day for 4 years) here http://m.panthers.com/media-vault/audio/This-is-Gross-with-DE-Greg-Hardy/b8c3c998-7a7f-4957-b299-1e96779e59a9

You're right. He said a couple days ago "nothing like a fam" meaning nothing can replace family. I took it as we are nothing like a family. I just can't see him coming back.
