Fox pre-game panel unanimous in support of Cam Newton

I know we've talked about the roughing the passer stat in a few different ways, but they said something on the Fox pre-show that I don't think we've seen mentioned in this way: Cam was the only quarterback who played all 16 games who didn't get a roughing the passer call at all last season.

It's been talked about in a few threads, graphs have even been posted. Cam hasn't had one since 2014 I'm pretty sure.

Actually, Carolina Sunday's comment is helpful, because on that graph it also shows CIN as having no rushing the passer calls, but of course Dalton was hurt at some point, he didn't play 16 games.  So, this distinction is noteworthy.  Cam really is the only passer to get no roughing calls against him in the full 16 game season last year.  Wow.

I know most of you are watching Falcons/Bucs but I've been turning to the Jets/Bengals game occasionally. The refs (Blakemon's crew!) called a personal foul on a high helmet hit to a WR and the announcer actually said that was a point of emphasis this year with the NFL, to flag high hits. I nearly choked laughing so hard. Definitely different standards for different players.

I understand this sentiment, and kinda-sorta share it.  It would make us feel better to have Ron venting.

But as long as Ron has done everything possible behind the scenes, and is REALLY taking a stand & that our players know it, and that they're supporting him in how he handles this, I'm ok with it.   In a sense, it's better to have others fighting the battles publicly for us...  takes some of the spotlight off the team, and doesn't give other teams bulletin board material.  They can't say that we're publicly whining or being "crybabies" - quite the opposite.

I've heard virtually no one, other than obnoxious Denver fans, try to claim that we're using this to somehow excuse or justify our loss.  Most commentators are really focusing on this as a matter of safety and principle.  That's a VERY good thing for us.  Ron's "low-key" "business-like" public response to this helps play into that.

We don't need a repeat of the SF playoff game with emotions and tempers high leading to careless play.  Keeping a lid on some of the emotion and channeling it into the game next week may be a good thing,

There's not much need to make our point from our end because those images of Cam getting pummeled and Cam lying motionless on the field speak for themselves. There's little subtlety about it and everyone was watching it unfold.

What sucks is that with all this "support" of Cam and how he kept getting smashed in the head, nothing will happen to the Broncos, and the Lanthers will get fuged somehow for not following concussion protocol.

Watch.

They can try but at the expense of what little credibility the league has about player safety.

I was wondering who the Lathers were, then I reread and was more confused....

Have to be blind in one eye and can't see out the other to say other wise. Also showed what a bunch of low class bung holes Denver is. See you in January boys.....when we will kick your sorry asses.

Yeah in a way... I kind of hope we see Denver in the Super Bowl again this year. Just to put them in their damn place...

I'm kind of concerned they will actively murder Cam on the field while the refs watch if we meet up in the SB again.

If a Bronco pulled out a gun and shot Cam during a pass attempt and the ball didn't make it to the line of scrimmage should we expect offsetting penalties once again?
