Panthers sign DT Antwon Burton!

Sean Smith is not already on the roster. It's apples and oranges.

The bottom line is that all of the people complaining can't name anybody better than the guys the Panthers have already signed. Anybody available that wouldn't cost a 1st round pick that we don't have, that is.

I think most people are just angry that this situation wasn't addressed sooner. We had virtually no depth at the tackle position, and still didn't pursue many options when Kemo went down. Then, with each injury, we'd hire whatever scrub was available -- instead of picking up other players that have now signed with other teams beforehand (i.e. Boone and that guy who went to San Diego - can't remember his name).

Hell, we all thought letting Favorite go was a bad decision when it happened, and that was when we had a few healthy DTs on the roster. He was no world-beater, but many of us thought he played better than Hayden.

Once again, who were they supposed to adress the situation with? No rookie was gonna come in a do what Kemo does, and all the good FA's were already taken by the time he got hurt, and they didn't have the money to get any of them in the first place. The only thing left to do was to sign the best cheap help available, which is what they did.

I think he means we didn't adress the weakest position on the team for a second straight off-season (unless you count Hayden and Irvin, I don't). But we were cash strapped an extra 17 mill would have help in our search. But i digress.

They may have gambled a little bit, but it looked like a good gamble at the time since Kemo had only missed a couple of games since he's been here.

BTW, I do count Irvin. He may not be the same type of player as Kemo, but there's only a small handfull of Kemo type players in the country. And there's no way they knew Irvin would get hurt either.

LOL this makes no diffrence we are gonna suck on the Dline. Tampa 2 was a very bad choice this year LOL.

Can Fox not realize there is a reason the Cover 2 is dying out, It Doesn't Work Anymore. O. Coordinators have seen it for years and it doesn't take a genius O coordinator to figure out how to exploit it. With this dline it doesn't stand a chance of working.

i don't think that they are done making moves. they placed leonard on IR and kicked hypolite off the PS.

they also made an injury settlement with salley clearing a bit of cap space. he was tendered $1.01 mil this year. not sure how much that freed up but burton was brought in to help on the active roster if we didn't find someone else. if they can then he will be moved to the PS replacing hypolite.

be ready for something else to happen. it probably won't be much but hopefully it will be better than burton.

    • If there's another QB that came to the combine after packing on 15 lbs of water weight to hide his playing weight, I don't remember it.  I understand it's all part of the pre-draft game, and he participated. The FO was stupid and ignored huge red flags.  On a side note though, I was at the airport a few weeks ago and saw a basketball team going through and decided to try and look through them. I'm 6'2 and these guys were 6'6 and up. I was amazed by how much I couldn't see around them. And these guys weren't 300 plus in pads. I still think he's having a hell of a time seeing the field at the NFL speed.
    • There is merit to the points you're making here. On the flip side one could argue it took us investing 150 million in the oline for him to have a breakout season. And he has still yet to hit 1k rushing yards in a season. As far as Brooks goes the position does not require that significant of a draft investment for many other teams. That's not being negative it's just a matter of fact. The 49ers did quite well with a UDFA running back while McCaffrey was out. It is understandable that some people have concerns. That being said it boils down to whether or not you believe in the player. We just have to see what happens with him and Brooks.
    • Okay, that day in Vegas had to embarrass him completely. Andy showed him how to do the job.  What I think when I go there, why did it take Andy? He has had game after game of watching actual NFL QBs work and that didn't do it?  Anyhow Andy did not mess around, he stood in there and did his job and got rid of the ball ahead of the pressure. Down the field. With the same players Bryce had. Night and day.  If that didn't wake him up nothing ever would. But I don't think he has any sort of top NFL QB in him, he just lacks the full tool kit.
