Who impressed/depressed last night

In a negative nancy today.

(-)Charles Johnson. As team Captain of that line, you need to step up and generate pressure from outside. 2 sacks and non from a DE isnt acceptable.

(-) Ryan Kalil. Come on man. As the captain of the line, you need to step up and stop getting penalties. I felt like you never get a flag and you had multiple.

(-) Bradberry, Boston. Both need to a) tackle better b)tackle better c) tackle better

(-) KK. You were outplayed by a rookie DT. If you want that $$$, you need to show it on the stat sheet. Right now its Butler 1, Short 0.

Over all I don't think any player played below their talent level will allow.

Impressed

Benjamin, looks back to pre-injury form.

Olsen, continues to be very clutch.

Stewart, impressed. So nice to have him healthy again. Love the way he plays when he's not nursing injuries.

Cam Newton's toughness, mentally and physically is nothing short of amazing. Big Ben and Favre are the only iron men QB'S that come to mind immediately that can compare toughness wise.

Fozzy getting 2 first down's on only 3 carries was nice to see.

Depressed

Rivera's clock management was suspect. This seemed like a regression for him in this department. The first half timeout's were not that big of a deal nor his fault that I can remember.

In the 2nd half, totally different story.

First one TD,actually called because Rivera was sleeping at the wheel on using the challenge flag. Had he thrown the flag before TD felt obligated to do so,we'd of been 1 timeout richer.

2ND one came when we stopped Denver with a sack on 3rd down Rivera decided to let 18 seconds run off the clock before deciding to finally use the timeout. At the time, due to the fact we only had 2 left, I assumed he was going to save it for later as more than a few seconds past without him using it. If he called it immediately would have saved us at least 16+ seconds. Once he let more than 15 roll off, the smarter play was to sandbag the timeout for later.

Disappointed with Riveras lack of awareness ( not throwing the flag on a couple of very questionable calls )and time management.  As well as his stoicism while Cam was geting the crap knowcked out of him.

Our run D also was a disappointment.

KB and Olsen both impressed me as being clutch types of players - a new look for KB.

Think about all the times over the last few years Cam has broke the huddle with less than ten seconds on the play clock.  Most of the time it results in a time out or a lousy play result.  So why in blue blazes dosent Ron insist on making sure he has the play called with sufficient time to scrutinize the defense prior to the snap?  What the actual fug?

Impressed:

-Cam Newton and his toughness

-Jonathan Stewart

-Kelvin Benjamin

-The Linebackers

Disappointment:

-Defensive Front Pass Rush

-Run Defense

-Pass Defense

-Devin Funchess and Ted Ginn Jr.

-Shula's playcalling (never been a fan) GET NEWTON SOME SCREEN PASSES WHEN PRESSURE IS DIALED UP!

The issue I have with Shula was the 3rd and 1 on our 1st drive to start the 2nd half.

We should have had Cam QB sneak it for the 1st down. Or how about JStew or Tolbert for 1 yard?

Instead we got too cute and rolled Cam out on a fake. Denver was ready for it and stopped Cam for a loss.

That stop was huge. We get any kind of points there and we change Denver's game plan. We force them to go away from the run and throw the ball.
