Should the Panthers defense respond in kind to teams that target Cam?

No but our Oline and other offensive players including coaches need to take a stand.

And they didn't. Rivera should have been on those referees like stink on poo the first time that happened

can you imagine McCarthy or Bellinchek not getting the head ref the first time that happened?

I am a firm believer that you teach people how to treat you and what Rivera taught the rest of the league, 'hey it's all good, the league and the refs, and the docs, they will handle it.  So what if it's our star player with a 67 million dollar guaranteed contract'

this team  showed no swagger  none whatsoever  nothing  you do not let someone outside the family beat up on family without paying for it

Obviously the refs aren't going to make calls for roughing the passer on Cam.  The more I think about it, the more emotional I get about the whole situation.  I think the Panthers defense should make a statement.  If opposing defenses make runs at Cam with no abandon, our defense should say "bump that" and take it to their QB.  Who cares if we get flags called on us, it's about making sure the other team know we aren't taking this bull anymore.

I sort of agree. Football is war and it's an eye for an eye. Ultimately refs can only do so much.  Vigilante justice on the field is how players police themselves. Sometimes the only reason opposing players won't target is because they know it will cost them their ACL. On the field is not a world where the normal laws of society applies.

I said this in another thread on the subject, but I'll say it again. Rivera should tell the refs that they need to put a stop to it or we're going to take matters into our own hands and unleash the dogs, then they'll have a total poo show to deal with on opening night. If it happens before the half, you stop to talk to the HC or DC on your way to the locker room and tell them to shut it down or we'll go hunting. I've played and coached football and been a part of these conversations, it works.

Uhm. No. I'm sure others feel differently, but not only is it a shifty thing to do to anyone, it would give the NFL that much more ammo to fug us over. I love that our team makes a big deal out of integrity on and off the field, and this would make our players just as dirty as the damn Broncos if they did that

I agree that, if done strictly as retaliation, it certainly is a "shifty" thing to do. The issue is that the officiating crew interprets the rules and implements during the game. They draw the line between what is acceptable and what is not. It's pretty subjective and not consistent game to game despite the league's efforts. It seems this officiating crew drew the line allowing some fairly intense aggressive play. The Broncos played closer to the line than we did. Had we been doing the same stuff and getting flags would have been a different issue, but we didn't take comparable shots (except maybe the Norwell call).

No, I don't think we should risk permanent brain damage on another innocent guy just because the gutless league and their gutless officials wish it upon Cam.

Nobody wants that. It's just someone might not break into your house if they know they'll get shot....if you get what I mean.
