So what should be done about flagrant helmet to helmet hits?

Like the one's Cam had to endure last night?  Right now as it stands the offending player basically gets a slap on the wrist with a fine, if anything.  We can see the ref's aren't going to police it too well, at least not unless you're Brady/Rodgers.  If the NFL wants to be taken seriously with their rules trying to ensure the safety of the players, there has got to be more punitive measures taken.

I mean let's be real.  As it stands, if you can take Cam out of the game with a helmet to helmet hit (and possibly multiple games) without any repercussions during the game such as throwing the offending players out...what is the downside to employing this tactic to take out the other team's best player?

And don't kid yourself, Cam was obviously negatively affected by those hits.  I don't know if he got a concussion but I do know that immediately after one of those hits he wasn't the same for a good bit.

And this leads to another question.  Why didn't anybody from the Carolina staff pull Newton and take him back to the locker room and check him out thoroughly?

Best thing we can do is keep talking about it, sharing stories about it and help it blows up as big as possible... let it be known that bullshit like that won't be tolerated.  Cam took, at least, 6 very blatant blows to the head - most of which were while he was in the pocket and supposedly afforded "protection" according to the modern rules of QB safety.

This game legitimately pissed me off, and it wasn't even because we lost.  That poo was sickening to watch when compared to how certain other QBs are treated when you so much as graze them anywhere above the shoulders.  Trai gets halfway to an ejection for jumping up and down celebrating a TD, Norwell gets penalized for "unnecessary roughness" for finishing a play on a defender that made an interception and wasn't touched down yet.  Kalil gets called for a fuging facemask during a big play, DURING which Cam gets headshotted with no call.

That whole game was absolutely ridiculous.  We had twice the amount of penalties or more despite the Broncos playing bush league bullshit the entire game.  Lol I can only imagine how many times they got away with 12 men on the field... they were called for it 4 times, despite only 2 of them counting since they were allowed to call timeouts literally while the refs were throwing flags to negate it.

I'm so upset thinking about this this morning. We should have done something. A player should have done something and stood up for cam after those hits. We take the Denver cheap shots because we don't stand up for ourselves when they happen. Why no one hauled off on that Stewart guy or Marshall is unreal. What frustrates me most about those games is we won't hit them back and after a certain point, we should. They just can't get away with that and if the refs won't do anything someone on this team needs to.

Scrap the defenseless player penalty all together and call a hit a hit for consistency. No more borderline late hit out of bounds flags, no calling a location on a QB roughing the passer and instead only call it if someone flies in well after the throw regardless of location. They know what they signed up for and making the game more confusing for no reason just to preserve the health of those who make millions off the game is dumb.

Penalty FG kicks for flagrant unnecessary roughness penalties would take care of it over night. Coaches will stop teaching that garbage to their players and tolerating it. That is the solution.

In the meantime keep running campaigns to tarnish the shield and their wallets until they correct it.

If you go that route, then take away the helmets of the defensive players and let them wear leather helmets again. They will stop that cheap crap.

The technology that is used in the helmets to improve the safety of the athletes is only allowing them to launch their full body weight and full speed into the head of an offensive player. That is counterproductive to the safety aspect of the helmet.

Why is it that defenders were not wanting to use their helmets as weapons in the 70s and 80s? Think about it.

What should be done, simple, in immediate ejection followed by a two game suspension for the first offense. I am not kidding either

hey Commissioner, seen the movie Concussion, want to keep your fan base vs. just the Begas oddsmakers, you best address this.

I have. And there is no evidence to support where it hurts the fans when the players take those shots. Nobody wants to watch refs throw laundry on the field for 60 minutes just like nobody wants to watch grown men roll around and cry when someone brushes up against their leg in a soccer game.

Personally I don't give a fat babies Dick about the safety of an athlete. They know the risks vs the rewards and as such can live with the consequences. Making all these rules every year is making the game less and less entertaining.
