My vote for our next HC...

Depends on who the GM is really. If there is no change there then whoever is brought in to coach will have the same philosopy as JR wants unless convenced otherwise. Which will be just as it is now. A conservative ball control scheme built around a strong run game. Just like the Steelers of old, remember.

You know who I want to see as head coach next year?

John Fox.

Because that would mean that he pulls this mess together, gets the ship righted and breaks the on again/off again curse. It means that he would get us back to the playoffs.

It looks bleak right now, really bleak. As a team we look ill-prepared to take advantage of the quality players we have and that's a shame. Sure, we've got injuries and one heck of a schedule ahead of us, but it's not about that at all is it?

Somehow our coach, who brought the Panthers to a level of respectability that the team had never had before, is going to have to lead this team, really lead this team. At this point, it isn't about the star players, it's about the guy with the clip board.

In other words, this is a frikkin' Knute Rockne moment.

Let's face it, the loss of Kemo isn't that big in the scheme of our team. Chris Harris being out two games isn't that big of a deal. He's had those two spots be lost in the past and filled in the holes left easily. DT and SS aren't the lynchpin spots that a MLB or CB on defense are. It's not like the years where we lost Stephen Davis, DeShaun Foster and Kris Jenkins to injury. It's not like we lost Jake like last year or that horrible year when we saw a broken leg take Smitty out in the first game.

In other words, the sky ain't falling, even though the fans think it is. And it's beginning to look like the players are beginning to think that way.

Like I said, I want to see Fox as our coach next year; but only if he earns it.

This is a guy who brought the two-back running attack back with Davis and Foster, and then perfected it with DWill and Stew. This is the guy who picked up a no-name bayou boy up for peanuts and got a Super Bowl quarterback in the deal. This is the guy who took a really short receiver with a bad attitude and stuck with him until he was a star WR. Heck, Fox is even the first pro coach to successfully use the Wildcat and Smoke Pass plays.

But he is going to have to give up the idea of "It is what it is." That's just resignation to situation, and we're going to have to have better than that to win. If not, then there's going to be a busy fax machine in the front office in January as smart coaches line up to take over this team.

Tighten up, toughen up and eat a danged cheeseburger Fox! Your ass is on the line, it's time to coach like this all means something again.

Bill Polian got Peyton Manning in a no-brainer pick, yet still only built enough of a team around him to get to the Super Bowl once. More often that not he was owned by Scott Pioli and Bill Bellichick and the Colts were perennial also rans. I give Dungy loads more credit for Indy's one Super Bowl run than I do Polian.

With all that said, I don't want any retread, Dungy included.
