Jared Goff to be inactive for Rams' season opener

Panther related because we play them 11-6.

The LA Rams announced Goff won't see the Field week 1 under any circumstances.

"When the Rams open their season against the 49ers on Monday Night Football, No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff will be in street clothes and a punter will be the team's emergency third-string backup.

That's the latest from NFL Network's Steve Wyche, who spoke with Rams coach Jeff Fisher on Tuesday. Fisher told Wyche that Sean Mannion will be the team's backup and punter Johnny Hekkerwill be the emergency backup."

Here's a player the Rams gave a King's ransom for ( Tennessee gets: Rams' first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016), a third-round pick (2016), a first-round pick (2017) and another third-round pick (2017).)

How can Fisher and the Rams so completely disrespect this kid? Seems to me Jeff Fisher is about 10 years past his prime.

Opinions?

I always assumed that Fisher and that GM would get tossed out with the rest of the garbage on the way out of STL.  I was shocked when they extended them. Now, they've taken a QB #1 overall who's best asset was that he was the most "NFL ready" QB in the draft. I think most everyone believes Wentz has a higher upside, but probably isn't as ready to see the field right out of the gate. Now, Goff isn't even going to dress while Wentz who missed a chunk of camp and preseason due to injury is going to be a day one starter.

LOL

I never thought Goff would be good and still am unsure but this to me means nothing about him. I personally do think that QB's should come into the league and sit for a year or even two or three before becoming a starter. I think that development and years of mental reps is extremely important. I don't think it necessarily hurts development to play them early but I do think they should have some redshirt time. Kind of like Rodgers did. Of course not every team has a situation like that where they have a starter like Favre. Fisher did pretty well with McNair with the Titans. He was drafted in the top 5 and didn't play for the first 2 years I think before becoming starter and eased his way into it. Of course that long is not ideal for what they gave up to get Goff. That being said, I'd never give up what they gave for any player, even a QB like Cam.

For years many Huddlers said don't draft a top QB while the previous regime was here because there was no way we could develop him. Is this the Rams today? Obviously they felt pressure to make a big splash coming back to Los Angeles and made the move for Goff.

Also, can you imagine Cam sitting for 2 or 3 years and how that would have retarded the QB he is today?

Him and John Fox are prime examples of coaches that rest on their laurels. Had a few good seasons early on and have been coasting on mediocre mood since

I wouldn't lump John Fox in there with him at all. Fox has made a career out of turning around wrecked franchises, and you could say that Kubiak rode Fox's team to the Super Bowl last year and you wouldn't be far from the truth. Fox's style of team building and player development were all over that... except that he had a QB that he didn't have to try to develop.

He inherited a 4-12 2010 Broncos team and brought them to 8-8 in his first year. Follow that up with 13, 13, and 12 wins, plus a Super Bowl appearance and that wasn't too bad. Manning did come in at that time, but he wasn't the only one as the defense and running back by committee idea were really built up. He did for Denver what he did for Carolina in the first part of his tenure here.

I think Elway made him fall on his sword after the embarassing Super Bowl loss.

Now, Fox is in Chicago and the mess there is worse than any place he's been before. Mainly, it's because he has been saddled with Cutler -- a QB just good enough to hold onto a starting spot for a bad team, and just bad enough to keep that team bad. If Fox survives QB-killer Cutler, then I'll be amazed.

Fisher... he's been brought in to fix mediocre teams and generally ran them into the ground or just managed to polish the turds that they were into basically, slightly shinier turds.

    • With a night to sleep on it I'm now firmly of the opinion that we keep letting Bryce improve the rest of the season and enter next years camp with 2 new additions to the QB room. One being a new veteran and the other being another rookie QB we can bring along slowly. If Bryce's ceiling is game manager so be it. In that instance it will be majorly beneficial to the team as a whole to have another QB waiting in the wings and use the other as trade bait. But we've got to be smart about this and think ahead. I cannot stress enough that we cannot again sit on our hands with the most important position. Meanwhile we've also been continuing to build up the rest of the roster in the meantime. Then maybe we will be ready to compete for the division and a playoff spot. That is the best path forward for this franchise given where we are and the mistakes we've made that should serve as a learning tool of what not to do.
