Drew Brees wants to retire a Saint. But he wants 4 years/100 million dollars from the Saints.

So last year's Aints draft class has

  • a 1st round #13 overall OT that can't displace RT Zach Strief and is being bounced around the line looking for a position to play, who needs to be pushed by the released and re-signed withered husk of Jahri Evans
  • a 1st round MLB whose average lateral agility and sideline to sideline range allowed slot receivers and TEs to flourish, displaced to SLB by the nearly 30 year James Laurinaitis, who was dumped by the Rams because he's not special enough anymore to be worth the $5.25 million in cap space the Rams saved from his release
  • a 2nd OLB that tore the same ACL twice in college has now torn it for the 3rd time
  • a 3rd round QB who was just waived
  • a 5th round OLB that was on IR all of last year and waived this year
  • a 5th round CB that played in 7 games and had to be placed on IR because he received more concussions (3) than actual game starts (2)

And now when they can see the light at the end of salary cap hell, the oncoming train of Brees' new contract with more than $25 million per year will crash into their $29 million of cap space next year

This is what happens when the Aints GM is also the Pelicans GM. Being there half the time leads to a half ass job

I'll take issue with your stance on the Brees deal? How can you knock a deal that was a home run for the Saints cap situation? The team saved $17.75 million in cap space this year with the deal. It's a five-year deal that automatically voids in two years, allowing the team to spread out guaranteed money over five years instead of two.

Sorry...meant 12.75 mil in cap savings.

Reports are it clears $12.5M in cap space in 2016 meaning he is getting about $4M in base this year and a $16M signing bonus to break up the $20M in salary he was getting(+ the $10M in previous proration) for a $17.5M cap figure in 2016 and if it follows most other recent Saints contracts then there is going to be a fairly sizable roster bonus that gets converted to signing bonus in 2017.

Looking like $16.5 this year, $17.5 next year, and $18 million dead money if he walks away after 2 years. We'll see how that turns out, as it seems the way this deal is laid out it allows him to continue to sign extensions for hood chunks of guaranteed money, much like Brady is doing with the Pats.

I'm guessing we will see a signing bonus conversion for next year's money at some point to free up even more cap room to go all in. Leaving around a $22M dead money hit in 2018 if he walks.

twas the night before game day, and the most popular thread on the main forum is a Drew Brees' thread being kept afloat by saints fans.

ah I long for the days of being able to log onto the huddle and only view panthers related topics while having the luxury to browse the NFL forum if I wanted to read or comment on a non-panther-related topic.

@mods

You have the luxury of only viewing Panthers related topics. Just don't click on the Drew Brees one.

If it in any way, shape or form affects the Panthers it's Panthers related

This affects the Panthers

After the Kraken was released in December 2013 and Cam subsequently found Hixon, Saints football became no longer relevant to the Panthers (for at least a generation, and based on history, maybe forever).  After watching us win three straight NFCS titles and with no end in logical sight, all this does is affect their Super Bowl, the draft.  I snickered knowing they'd likely be in draft purgatory this year, just good enough to avoid the premier prospect or king's ransom he would garner.  Extending that is all this does, at best.  I give it no more thought.

that's not the point. this is a panthers forum. during the regular season there shouldn't be anything on here that isn't panther related. the creator of this forum even had a thread pinned just a week ago explaining that it's time to keep any general NFL news out of here because we have a sub forum for that. the dude that posted this thread is notorious for only posting non-panther news. I honestly can't even recall him talking about the panthers much. he's just the NFL general news copy paste king. I set him on ignore weeks ago but unfortunately I still have to see his irrelevant threads at the top of the panther forum as fans from opposing teams such as yourselves continue to discuss your teams news on our forum and balloon the thread up to 8+ pages.

would you guys have an 8 page thread sitting atop your forum the night before the regular season kicks off with a superbowl rematch? I doubt it, because even the saints report which is one of the worst forums on the internet is collectively better than the fansgender gender OP with a UNC username, that roots for Oklahoma and Duke, but not UNC, unless its basketball - or something fugging retarded like that.

That bad huh? Seems like your beef is with the thread creator, not the thread lol.
