Even before the injury, Bersin was outplaying Norwood. And Byrd is ahead of them both, not only is he fast, he's tough. I noticed him several times with some very nice blocking downfield.

He was completely robbed of a great TD catch last night with that horseshit PI call, but I doubt that would have changed his fate. I hope he sticks on the practice squad.

Byrd.  Some of the Anti-Byrd crowd was asking why we weren't giving him the Bersin treatment after one muff....and I think we know now.  Byrd looks dangerous.

CAP.  CAP ain't got to worry about a spot.

Wegher IMO hurt himself.....he was the worst RB in preseason IMO.

Bersin hater at one point, but he's earned a spot. Byrd is a playmaker, and should be a lock. Really impressed with Lucas, and hope he makes it.

Wegher isn't ready. PS or cut completely.

I know he's in no trouble from losing his roster spot, but gotta show some love to JJ Jansen. While Marcus Ball was flying through the air like an idiot, trying to avoid contact, JJ was recovering a very live football. He rarely gets the opportunity to get some props, so there we go.

I think Cash and Byrd makes the 53, while they try to get Wegher, Sandland and Garrett to the PS. Of those three, I think Sandland and Garret should make it through waivers, while I'm uncertain about Wegher. Before last night I didn't think he would go through waivers, but now I believe there is a good chance he will..

Both Olsen and Dickson are not good blockers, this whole blocking thing is getting blown out of proportion.

 

As for Sandland he's a 7th round pick the chances of him developing into anything special are slim to none.

I thought Olsen had improved his blocking over the years to be decent. I always hear Dickson isn't the best blocker but didn't we use him as a blocking TE last year?

Byrd is a lock. I think we keep 6 WR this season. 

I hope we find a way to keep Cash. Might be looking at 6 LBs as well.

Hawkins looks terrific. He has great lateral quickness. There were a number of times last night where the defender timed the snap perfectly and he was able to recover and get enough leverage for a good block.

Yes!  I had my eye on Hawkins as well, and have been really pleasantly surprised.

Actually, the way I saw it, Ball was trying to avoid contacting the ball.  It had ricocheted of the Steelers player's foot and was travelling fast.  Ball was coming up on the ball fast and it surprised him.  He didn't have time to react to cover the ball so the only option was to hurdle the ball instead of contacting it and knocking it away from his teammates.  I thought it was a pretty heads-up play on Ball's part. 

As for players that helped themselves, I don't see any way Byrd doesn't make the team.  I think it was apparent last night he learned from the muffed punt in the 1st preseason game.  And he has played exceptionally well on offense.  

Cash is another I can't see being cut even to try putting him on the PS.  I just don't think he clears waivers, especially since he was the #1 rated UDFA and has don't nothing but reinforce that ranking in preseason.

ETA:  Oh, and Mayo is the real deal, too.  He appears to be LK Lite.  Always seems to be around the ball.
