Gettleman did not step down from the Giants personnel department. He stepped back from scouting the Giants opponents and focused solely on player evaluations and stocking the roster/ps. He was the senior advisor to the GM. Sternfeld, his protege, took the title of Pro Personnel Director and focused most of his efforts in his first year of that role scouting opponents.

So, yes, Stevie Brown was Gettleman's guy. He scouted him and recommended him as depth.

You should really do more research as to what Gettleman did with the Giants. He was still heavilly involved with the personnel side of the organization in 2012.

Try again, junior.

So Gettleman approached Mara and Reese, and essentially asked for a demotion, to senior pro personnel analyst. His assistant, Ken Sternfeld, whom Gettleman had brought into the organization, succeeded him as pro personnel director.

(He asked) if it would be okay if he went to part-time status and Kenny Sternfeld would then take his spot as the head of pro personnel. I told him that it was fine with me if that's what was going to make him happy,

Maybe this would be a good time for you to try and attribute quotes to Ron Rivera that he didn't say again. That worked so well last time.

I know what Gettleman said he did in 2012 and the responsibilities of the personnel department he wanted to focus on. I will take the words straight from his mouth at the time of his role change over conjecture from articles written 4 years which you attribute your knowledge and opinions to for this topic. Stevie Brown was a player Gettleman was very high on with his evaluations back in 2012. When you get the chance ask him.

Like you took the words straight from Rivera's mouth? (even if he didn't actually say them)

I have three possible scenarios for the signing of Brown.

1. Veteran depth. Marlowe and others haven't impressed the coaching staff. If Marlowe can't win the back up job then we have no solid depth at safety. Colin Jones has experience but is mainly a special teams player with great speed that could come in emergency situations if needed.

2. preseason depth, maybe we are just keeping Brown until Marlowe comes back. The Panthers probably don't know when Marlowe will come back  so we had to sign someone. Brown could just end up being signed to fill in for the final preseason game. If this is true then I don't understand why we just didn't sign a younger player that we could develop. This could also mean that Marlowe's injury is going to keep him out for a while thus the need for a veteran safety.

3. Replacing Boston. Our staff believes we need a veteran presence because Boston isn't getting the job done. By signing now instead of after the final roster cuts give an extra week of practice for Brown to learn our playbook. if this is true then I could see us still using Boston quite a bit, possibly platooning with Brown.
