Kruger visiting Saints

LB Paul Kruger, who was cut by the Browns will be visiting the hated Saints today... Guess this means if they sign him the Saints will go from having the mother-fuggin worst defense in the NFL to just the fuggin worst.

I'll be shocked if Kruger is on our radar. How many times has Gettleman said leading up to the draft that players who aren't a scheme fit aren't on our draft board? Pretty sure all of Kruger's NFL experience is at 3-4 OLB.

He's a pass rushing specialist in the 3-4. I feel like the Panthers could have found a way to use him. But the same goes, he's not a 4-3 end like the Panthers scheme is. Another vet pass rusher will probably be available and I'd be shocked if we didn't add one.

the saints don't give anything resembling a poo because they're going to be doing what the browns are right now when brees retires.  dumping salaries and trading away dudes left and right.

they'll just convert somebody's salary to a signing bonus and open up a few million to make room

By cutting Keenan Lewis. That gave them $2.7 million of breathing space. Some of it already got used, tho, when they traded for Dolphins DE Chris McCain and signed former Raider OT Khalif Barnes

But that's what bad teams do at this time of year. Sign multiple leftover scraps and trade for career back-ups that have 2 sacks in 18 games while pinching their pennies

Barnes is depth. McCain was traded for a conditional 7th. I would assume that conditional is that if he makes the final 53, they'll get the pick. There will be multiple moves made all teams, not just bad ones. 

Didn't the Panthers just sign Major Wright and trade for a punter? Or is that different?

Yes, it is different, because we are much better in all facets of the game/organization as a whole than the Saints.

The Panthers ha e won the division for three straight years. That's the difference. Two franchises headed in the opposite direction.

Which I'm aware of. I have no problem admitting the Panthers have been better. Just his particular example was irrelevant. Every team in football is making moves this time of year.

You can claim Barnes is depth, but I'm not buying it. With Peat getting shuffled around your O-line like a deck of cards in Vegas, I'm thinking he's there to compete with Peat for a Guard spot, whichever one isn't occupied by Lelito or Kelemete

As for the trade, ours brought in a proven field changer to fill one of the very few spots we had open. Yours brought in a career back-up, which smells of desperation to find someone, anyone, who can pressure the pocket. Kikaha and Rankins are both hurt, and the Pelicans GM did a great not great job of bringing in depth behind those 2 in March and April

That explains just how much you know. No one is there to compete with Peat for guard. I'm more than certain they'll be keeping an eye on cuts for a potential player at the other guard spot, but Peat has one locked down.

You seem to be putting a lot of stock into a trade for a conditional 7th round pick. This is basically a try out, as he was more than likely to be cut, this just kept the Saints from having to play the waiver game. Dan Campbell knows him well. 

I'm failing to see how the Saints didn't address the depth, unless they're suppose to have pro bowl players sitting on the bench. But the Saints brought in Fairley, Onyematta, and Rankins during the offseason for rotation in the interior. Kikaha was part of a rotation on the outside, one that the Saints aren't happy with the production out of. The Saints made major changes on defense this offseason.
