OK but there is no guarantee that they would have been cut and there is no guarantee that Lee would have still been available if we had waited. This is just like when people say that player X would have still been available in the 5th round if their team didn't draft them in the 4th. There is just no way to actually know that.

It's not sexy but not having a punter this year made me realize how important they are to this team. This dude can switch fields. And no team is going 80+ yards on this D consistently.

But in this case field position and our defense will pay dividends.

Exactly his punts played a key role for the 49ers defense. He could reverse the field and force the opposing team to have drive 70+ plus yards down the field to score on a top 5 defense.

Yes they would've been cut. Jacks has Nortman now and Colquitt is being shopped around.

Andy Lee is one of the best punters in the league, and has been since he was on the 49ers.  My brother is a huge 49ers fan and would always rave about Andy Lee, the guy has a leg.  Gettleman apparently thought we were a disaster at that position, and now he traded for one of the best in the biz. Cant complain...

I'm good with it. After watching preseason..punter was a huge need. Lee has a decade of very accurate punts. Age isn't really a factor with punters. They last forever. No gaurentees colquitt is there when we want him. 30 other teams in bid war. Gman will make up the 4th. Gman, the rounds don't really matter..he finds gems in every one

I don't like giving up a 4th rounder but if he's that good then he's worth it. Keeping field position advantage is an important part of the game.
