We have traded for Andy Lee from the Browns

Is everyone who is so convinced we can turn a 7th rounder into gold actually aware of our draft history.

This isn't even a criticism of Gettleman, because 6th and 7th round picks never really pan out for everyone, but let's halt the breaks on, the, "it's fine, Gettleman will just draft someone even better in the 7th round!"

Sandland, Gaffney, and Barner.  Those are the guys Gettleman has chosen past the 5th round.  Actually pretty good value given where they were picked, as Gaffney and Barner might contribute with their new teams, but it's very unlikely we get anyone who sticks on our roster that late.

There's a lot of mythology on this board, and hero worship of Gettleman that clouds people judgment on what's happened over the past years.

Did Gettleman choose to lead the team to Cap hell, causing huge contract concerns of overpaid costs for little value? Did Gettleman let his personal emotions get in the way of business and football? Nope. That would be Hurney. Just his own mistakes that would've lead to a very Saint-like organization today. Those Hurney contracts were bad. Very bad. Getting Cam and Luke in the top 10 of the draft was just a consolation for terribly managing the Panther's contracts.

Gentlemen also hasn't been here as long as Hurney....Hurney's real flaws came to light after he had been here a half decade.   At one point, Hurney was basically viewed as Gettlemen is now....

so the Gettlemen/Hurney banter simply favors Gettlemen as he is still so young here vs Hurney.  Gentlemen is just now getting into the part of his era where Hurney imploded

Remember......this is a CAROLINA 4th, and a CLEVELAND 7th.....what is the actual pick # difference.....forget the round....and we get our pick a year earlier.....

There is actually some confusion about that.  The Browns traded their 7th for Lee and got an extra 7th to trade from the Colts for Billy Wynn.

Uhh wow...a 4th for a punter? It needed to be addressed but that is really steep and reeks of desperation to correct an offseason failure to properly address the position.

DG definitely made a mistake with the punter situation this offseason and honestly that's fine. No one is perfect and he's done more than enough to earn a screw up here and there but I do worry he doubled down on his mistake to make up for it. Even if he's great we overpaid but it would be excusable. We got screwed if he's simply an above average punter.

Lee is better than Nortman, period.  Nortman was never a GMan pick anyway and goes into the comp pick formula to boot.  Panther fans should feel good about this.

Exactly my point. Thanks for the support and agreeing with me.

Well, if you think our disappointing 2014 season was largely impacted by the fact Cam Newton was injured most of the season....then yeah, I agree.

A 7th was used to move up and grab Benwikere. It's just draft capital to move around the board.

Did Hurney choose to sign DeCoud, Cason, Avant, Underwood? Did Hurney choose to invest in Bell as a starting LT and Chandler as the RT with a contract extension only to make a late season desperation move to find a sub par Remmers as a stop gap? Nope. That would be Gettleman. Just own the mistakes he made along with his wins. Be honest. 2014 was bad. Very bad. A win in the playoffs against a very beat up Cardinals team was just a consolation for winning an extremely awful division.

Hurney "chose" to draft Jimmy Clausen, Amini Silatolu (over Corey Glenn, mind you), Dwayne Jarrett, Eric Shelton, Sione Fua, Joe Adams, Charles Godfrey (whom he re-upped to a cap-eating contract),  Brandon Hogan, Bruce Nelson, Eric Norwood, traded away a first round pick for Everette Brown and - everyone's favorite - traded away the top pick of the second round for Armanti Edwards.

All of this was in addition to blowing our salary cap to hell re-signing the core players of a mediocre (at best) team.

Care to "own" that?

And one of those years it was due to the division Just sucking that bad. We got in with a losing record, I want to say we were that good but I can't shake luck not having something to do with that. The 12-4 year we was consistently one of the best teams all season just to lose the first playoff game to Colin Kaepernick so I say this...... I want to see this team to do more and they are perfectly capable of doing more.

Sure they are capable, now that they have a competent GM in charge.

My hunch says it's unloaded for OL/S/DE help before the Nov 1 trade deadline anyway for immediate Super Bowl run help.

Don't recall mentioning Nortman and yes Lee is better than Nortman but that doesn't mean P couldn't have been addressed in the draft, UDFA or FA more adequately after Nortman left. Could this work out well? Absolutely it could but it honestly should have never gotten to this point.

Reading that was painful. I literally almost threw up.
