People worship Dave Gettleman in some kind of weird universe where they pretend we don't have Cam Newton, the best and most impactful player in the NFL (the Lebron James of the NFL).  All this talk about how Gettleman is the sole reason the Panthers have turned it around.

But wait, wasn't the entire justification for why Cam Newton was the MVP due to the fact he had no weapons (besides Olsen and Stewart, inherited from Hurney), a mediocre offensive line that relied on max protect schemes, and overall deficit talent?  You can't both say Cam Newton did the most with so little, and then say the 'so little' was due to having a great general manager.

Cam Newton would make a lot of general managers look smart.  Most of our best players were a result of Hurney, and not all of them were obvious 1st round picks as people like to claim.  People will say that the Panthers stunk even with Cam Newton before Gettleman arrived.  Yeah, it's pretty typical for Hall of Fame quarterbacks to struggle in their rookie and sophomore seasons before they improve to greatness.

how many people on last year's roster were brought in by Hurney, and how many were by Gettleman?  There's entire drafts done by Hurney that aren't even in the NFL any more.

Well see, now you've made it way to obvious. I'll give you a 3/10 for the effort though.

I was meh on this until I saw Cleveland only gave up a 7th for him last year. We were supremely ripped off and while I do think he is argibaly the best in the game, a 4th is pretty extreme when we almost certainly could've had him for less.

14 page reaction for a 4th and a punter. Shrug, Idc. Plus we didnt know how much money we had at the time of letting Nortman go. Now we know a much more accurate picture of how much we'll have for the season. Now its time to spend where we need.

This was hardly a bad move and more of a money talks and bullshit walks scenario.

loll at the people tripping about a 2018 pick. What the eff is the point of even watching the 2016 season if all you're worried about is a future panthers team that's non existent as of today.

If you want to win a superbowl, you have to do everything in your power to put the best possible team on the field each and every year, and the Panthers just did that by adding Lee.

All Panther fans should care about is the now, especially given how deep and talented our roster is already and how close we came to winning the SB last year.

I happen to partially agree with this, because despite what Gettleman says about 'not believing in windows', windows certainly exist, and you have to capitalize on those rare moments in franchise history when a Superbowl is in sight.  Cam Newton is not your ordinary quarterback, and I'm skeptical he will be able to play at this level in his 30s given the pounding he takes (doesn't help when you invest nothing into the tackle positions).  His dual threat abilities disguise a lot of our weaknesses in offensive talent.

Which is why it was imperative we kept Josh Norman for one extra year on a reasonable franchise tag number.  Instead we have 30 million in cap room we're not even going to use, only a partial amount that will be able to be 'rolled over'.  But hey, we can put a lot of that money to good use on a 34 year old punter who hasn't actually been a top 5 punter since 2011.

When it's week 8 and Worley is still getting abused in coverage, I think a lot more people are going to come around to this position.  Or at least use that 4th round to get us an upgrade at right tackle.

look at this clown. you know what GM Cam didn't make look good? Marty Hurney (and I am a Hurney fan).

Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess, Ted Ginn Jr., Philly Brown, Michael Oher, Andrew Norwell, Trai Turner, Mike Remmers, Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short, Shaq Thompson, AJ Klein, Bene Benwikere, Kurt Coleman, Tre Boston, etc. are all important players brought in by Gettleman. He also got this team out of salary cap hell.

So tell us more how Cam is the sole reason Gettleman looks component.

Not a big Hurney supporter but drafting cam and Luke is still leaps and bounds above what gettleman has done. The impact is just to great when comparing and that's not even including khalil, TD, CJ, Hardy, Norman......hiring RIVERA.  You can't take that credit away from him no matter your love for gettleman. Gettleman is one of the best but he has not had to build anything from the ground up. That's just being realistic.
