What's the least important position on the team then dear?

Certainly not a starting position, which a punter is. If you want to play this game, 3rd string QB is probably least important. Regardless, your statement was ridiculous.

All these arm chair gms acting like they know what their doing when Gettle not only took a 7-9 team to 12-4 a year later, but ultimately has made the Panthers one of the best teams in the NFL over the past 3 years. Not like we went 15-1 and made it to the superbowl last year without our #1 WR. But yeah, lets listen to the guys who watch the Panthers 3 hours a week on Sunday.

Well to be fair you're not going to find real life GM's to post on an Internet forum.

You applaud G-man for taking a 7-9 team to 12-4 but must have forgotten he let that 12-4 nucleus (that was 90% built by Hurney btw) and let them fall to 7-8-1.

Gettleman has made mistakes and brilliant moves since coming here.

Jury is still out on this move in terms of long term judgement, however I find it silly to criticize fans for not having the resume our general manager does and sayin their opinions are hence worthless.

Personally I'm not sweating a 2018 4th round pick and am glad we found a way to fix this position of need with one of the best at his position. I'm on board for sure, however I understand why some wouldn't love the move.

We are playing for an NFL Championship.  No future 4th round pick is gonna get us closer than a pro-bowl kicker this year.

I'm seeing a lot of justification for this trade around 'our window', or 'this is our year to win a Superbowl'.  Wasn't the entire justification for not retaining Josh Norman on a one year franchise deal that Gettleman doesn't 'believe in windows'.

If this is truly a special year for us, where we need to cash in and win it all, why not keep Josh Norman for an extra year?  This punter makes nearly 4 million dollars this year.  The difference between Andy Lee's cap hit and Nortman's cap hit could have paid for the difference between what Josh Norman wanted this year.

Would you rather have an all world corner like Josh Norman, and an average punter in Brad Nortman, plus an extra 4th round pick, or would you rather give up a 4th, pay more salary for Andy Lee, and have to start two rookies at cornerback?

Face it, Gettleman botched this.  An outrage that made me sign up for this forum.

Do you know what a position is? They are one of the following:

QB

RB

FB

WR

TE

T

G

C

DE

NT/DT

LB

S

CB

K

P

Long snapper

Returner

The punter is the least important position. This should not be a controversial statement.

If you disagree that the punter is the least important position on the team, it's on you to come up with one less important. Did I say it was completely useless and unimportant? Nope! Just said it was the least important position on the team, which is a true statement.

Bucky Brooks ranked every position recently and had punter ahead of only return specialist, which I disagree with: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000503855/article/ranking-each-positions-importance-from-quarterback-to-returner

Long snapper

Except in the case of a guy like Colquitt, he's a vested veteran and thus would not be subject to waivers, but free to negotiate with any team he wanted.

Ah, thanks for that correction.  I always forget about that distinction.
