When was the last time this place was so quiet about our 1st round pick?

I wish people would understand there is literally no position we could of picked a player other than cb, where the player picked was going to get a lot of playing time/hype. No need to panic though, its just a sign of a talented and deep football team

No one is saying otherwise.  I'm asking about the lack of talk about him in general.  Many people didn't even want Shaq in round 2 last year and there was heated discussions about him across the board.  It just seems no one even cares to se how Vernon is doing which I find odd (regardless of his potential impact year 1).  Does no one want to even chart his progression?  There's just been virtually nothing about the kid and he'll be here for quite some time.  The investment still holds the same amount of water as previous years and it's just like, "whatevs".   So much focus on the end of the dpeth chart running backs and TEs but our first rounder is garnering nothing.  I just find it curious.  No freakout but it'd be cool to see how he's doing.

Shaq had a good rookie year. Funchess just turned it up at the end of the year. Personally I think Gettleman is getting a little to arrogant for my liking. After what I seen Friday, we should have drafted a right tackle.

if gettleman had drafted OL at the bottom of the first it would have been for the future because i doubt he would have beaten out both williams and remmers

If we had picked either Henry, especially Derrick, there would have been a lot more buzz, not to mention that a WR always generates buzz. Lineman aren't sexy, and they aren't sexy picks.

Was pretty quiet last year too.

Yep. Shaq was a great depth pick. Started out working under Klein, then started to contribute more. Now he's primed for a breakout year at best, and at worst is insurance if Klein leaves. I expect the same from Butler.

Keep in mind KK Short did the same thing - he started as a backup his first year, but got an increasing role as the season wore on. Then he was great in 2014 and an All-Pro in 2015. Kris Jenkins had a similar trajectory - he didn't really become the monster he was until his second year. And that's fine. We have the luxury not to have to reach. We have the luxury to develop players.

DE, OT, RB, TE, and S. DT was a waste of pick unless he turns out to be a pro bowler.
