Broncos Shopping Punter Britton Colquitt

I'm pretty sure Gets had a pretty good notion that he would be cut since they were shopping him.. and he would be available without a trade and likely at a lower price tag.  But he still chose to make the trade.  That to me gives me confidence that Lee must be special.  And that's good enough for me.

It amounts to an average of 2-3 yards per punt...not sure that's worth giving up a 4th round pick and paying a guy $2.8m to boot.

Maybe the right price to ensure a complete team in all aspects. What is your price on winning? That is my perspective. He may have given to much imo but we have seen what bad punting does by our preseason play to warrant nippleshorts to go in action for a punter.

There's no guarantee, sure, but I think he would come play for a contender.

Worst comes to worst, I'm fairly certain nearly every team in the league is willing to part with their punter for a future 4th round pick...like I said yesterday, I think the Browns would have snapped up that deal next week just as quickly as they did yesterday.

Yeah, but next week is our 1st regular season game.  Better to give him time to work with our special teams units, and with Graham Gano getting into a rhythm as holder... let him play in 4th game.  Don't want him to be a walk on a day or two b4 Denver.

What's done is done, so I guess it's a moot point, but IMO the move reeked of desperation yesterday and does even moreso today given a very capable punter is on the street free to sign anywhere, and one that doesn't really need "work" to get ready for the opener given that the game is being played where he's punted for the past 6 years.

To be fair though, Colquitt's value was never really distance, but in his directional punting (which is supposedly coveted by the Panthers.

Britton Colquitt: Master of Directional Punting

britton-colquitt-denver-broncos-punter-f

With the lack of consistency displayed by the Denver Broncos’ offense this year, punter Britton Colquitt was called on to punt 84 times, the eighth-highest total in the league. Despite lacking a powerful leg by NFL standards, Colquitt was able topost a productive yearby virtue of hisdirectional puntinggame, which is among the best in the NFL.Chuck Zodda shows you which way to look when Colquitt is punting this weekend.

Britton Colquitt does not stand out when viewing either traditional or advanced punting statistics. His gross average of 43.6 yards per punt ranks 28th in the league, with his net average of 39.7 yards per punt only slightly better at 21st. This can be heavily influenced by field position, but Colquitt’s target distance punted (TDP) clocks in at 96%, and he is worse in pin deep situations, with TDP of 93% in those scenarios compared to 97% inopen field punts.

While distance is not a strength for Colquitt, his directional game is outstanding. 56 of his 84 punts landed outside either the left or right numbers this year, and he displays tremendous control to both sides of this field. This masterful directional game allows Colquitt to compensate for his relatively-weak leg. Colquitt has the 11th lowest punts-returned percentage, and when opposing teams attempt a return, they manage just 6.9 yards per return on average, good for 12th in the leagu

I fairly sure broncos would not have waived Britton til the night before the panther opener. No way they wanted the panthers to have all that juicy Intel.

Who knows if Britton would have signed here too, he may hate the panthers. Still hate giving up that "5th" for Lee.  I do remember Lee being huuuuge on sf forums as a god meme, we'll see if he's still got the goods.
