Read his quote he explains why he used the anthem as his stance.

I did. That is my issue.  Flag/anthem is too big for him to want it to fit a little box for his statement.

got zero issue with him or anyone making a stand on that topic.  But even though bringing attention to a topic can be done with great intentions.....it can be poorly done.   That happens a lot IMO.  People also seem to think if it poorly done that someone shouldn't be called out on it...because their initial intention was something just.

Kaep has presented himself as a dumb douchebag. All of a sudden, one day, he decides he is going to take a stand against social injustice. Good for you. Of course you were raised by white parents and have a white mom and were given every opportunity in life despite having a broken home. I feel for you and would not want to diminish your plight.

You have Bob Marley in your avy he was of mixed race and his Father's family who were white discriminated against him because he was half black. Who's to say that Colin hasn't experienced racism.

Yes, and i have a tremendous amount of respect for them. Do you know why Ali protested the war,.Black men were good enough to fight along side "Americans" in the war but were not good enough to be served at a counter at restaurants. Why go to a unjust war for America only to come home and be discriminated against was part of his line of thinking.

I know about Ali.  I think Ali should be left out of this discussion personally.  My issue is on how Kapernick excuted getting his message out.  Not an issue with the topic.

I agree with the Ali statement. He didn't burn a flag he just didn't stand up for the anthem, standing up for the anthem is not mandatory.

I haven't read this thread but I assume the sentiment is this:

Of course he is right. Racial inequality and oppression are a huge problem and as a black athlete in the spotlight he is in a unique position to help.

But instead of using your voice or influence or money, you choose to disparage the flag. Which of course does nothing except bring negative attention to you.

HEY EVERYONE I AM MAD ABOUT SOMETHING LOOK AT ME!

Douchebag

On some things I can't defend him but in this case what exactly is he suppose to do?

He's donated money to protest organizations before, this isnt even the first time he hasnt stood up for the flag. The only reason it got big this time was becasue the media latched on to it and asked him about it. He responded.

there is no such thing as an effective peaceful protest and thats what people want.

There is non-violent protest which isn't the same, all protest has to be disruptive of something, it has to hurt feelings to start a conversation and if you believe the flag represents a state where  yes its good, even great compared to what else out there but still needs work, still treats people that look like you in unjust ways then it should be your right not to feel obligated to stand for it.

if you love something you should be able to say we have a problem here.

I find it hella creepy that we spend moments in our lives worshiping a flag, standing up and placing your hand over your heart while you sing along is some ritual stuff. I feel the exact same way about the pledge of allegiance, it's the finest form of straight up brainwashed nationalism, and it is hella weird to see. I am fine Kap not standing, regardless of the reason.

Like it or not, professional athletes have a bully pulpit in this country, just like all the other entertainers. Many people, particularly young ones, look to them as role models.  Many athletes, especially the more popular ones, can do more with a few words, or small acts such as this one, than most are able to do in a lifetime. Plus, no one is privy to everything that Kaepernick or any other athlete does. At least we see what they do as a part of their social obligations of just being an NFL player. That has to stand for something.

There is talk and there is do

Thomas Davis, Peanut Tillman, do...Kapernick talks

warrick Dunn does, by giving homes to people who need them. Single  mothers,  Collin ?  ..and Warrick made a far sight less money than Kapernick

that is how those men  spend  their time and money and they came from far far worse

i can think of no athlete  who was less right to bitch about anything with more time and money to help fix it than Collin Kalernick

he could a lot from the Olympic athletes and Ursain Bolt

This country is about change, stand up and help change it and the world. Wow the arrogance. Go to China, North Korea see what people are doing to their own people.

Are we perfect? Hell no! But we can't change without all of us working together.

Dude I freakin love this song and didn't think anyone outside of my father knew it.

He's pulling a Chris Kluwe. Player clearly past his prime takes up politics so, when he is cut or doesn't start, he has an excuse. It's a career move.

Oh come on!  It is absurd to think Colin was ever "in his prime" lol.

So, Kap does no kind of charitable work, huh? According to my research, several people said he does a "ton of charity work." And sure, he was adopted by a loving family, but that doesn't necessarily mean life was all rainbows, unicorns and cotton candy. Being an adoptee brings unique hardships.
