Theres this entire section of the country that always seems to be surprised that people from the other side don't get the warm and fuzzies when looking at the American flag.

Then, let me really blow their minds. I say "blow their minds" because they obviously lack any kind of understanding and empathy.

ya know this country also ended slavery, almost world wide? As I said, we are not perfect, no country is. Who cares when the words were written, are they not true?

Look man I'm black and I'm happy to be here, I'm still not naive though and any stand another black man takes I can't fault him for it. What people need to realize is that Kaep was raised by a white woman, so who saw both sides. More importantly he saw how the world viewed him outside of his white home, and that picture isn't always pretty. The point is that anthem wasn't written for blacks or with blacks in mind. Like I said I still stand because this is my country and I'd like to think I belong here, but I'm no fool.

It wasn't written with women in mind either, but the anthem and the words of the declaration of independence can still apply to us all. And as I said on page one, we can make this country and the world a better place, together. But drawing a line against the police (and that's what Kap did) doesn't help anybody.

This is a ploy to keep himself from getting cut.  Kind of a crappy thing to do to the coaches and the players.  Now Chip Kelly and the 49ers look bad if they bench him or cut him.

Actually, he might prefer to get cut. Might ultimately turn out to be a win-win situation.

The flag is the ultimate scapegoat because it doesn't talk back.

We'll inevitably get a biography in a few years where he blames his failures on it and his inability to catch on anywhere else on it rather than his inability to play football, thus perpetuating the cycle of blaming America for our own failures and irresponsibilitiea.

He has the right to do what he did.

His employer and sponsors have the right to disagree and take whatever action they deem appropriate.

He has the right to not be imprisoned or worse for expressing his beliefs, which happens every day in many countries.

I do find it ironic that his solution to fight divisiveness is to not stand during the national anthem, one of the most divisive things you can do in this country... But to each his own.

Muhammad Ali risked his livelihood to protest a war.

Colin Kaepernick sat down.

Colin is stunning and brave!

What Colin did has people talking. Sitting down during the anthem allowed him to state his grievance with the current state of America, the same way Ali's protest of the war allowed him to state his grievance with America at that time. Not as different as you think, they both were taking a stand.

If getting people talking warrants such a foolish comparison, than I guess you can compare me to Ghandi.

That wasn't the point. Getting people talking allowed him to get his message to more people. Ali was hated for his protest, but he took his stance no matter the consequences, Colin is prepared for the consequences he could easily get blacklisted out the NFL and lose his endorsements for his statement..
